Two scared piggies.

Any tips?

They are hiding together in their pigloo.

Should I cover the cage in a blanket?

Or bring them up onto the sofa with me?

I just feel so sorry for the wildlife - or what is left of it in this country. I used to love fireworks when I was younger and they were just pretty, now the intention seems to be to make the place sound like Iraq. I absolutely HATE the things now and I can't think of a bad enough fate for those setting them off!

they are still going off , luckerly my pigs dont seem to be botherd but my two old old dogs are
realy frightend .:(:(

Hope you're two are OK @TheAurora, cuddles are definitely best for them if they are scared. I've spent weeks worrying about tonight. I think all the terrifying random bangs of the last month have desensitised my two. They have been happily munching hay and are now asleep out in the middle of the cage. I expected them to be huddled in hiding tonight! We have got some really loud stuff going on right overhead and even Peanut who is a really timid pig is quite unconcerned. When I spoke to them just now they looked at me like "what's up with you it's only a few loud bangs".

Is there anything you can do to sooth the dogs?

Poor harry and lloyd are currently cowering under a blanket on my sofa. I cannot wait for tonight to be over. Really wish fireworks were banned :(

Firework displays where I live are continuing throughout the weekend!

I'm lucky none of mine are scared. I was worried about Sakurai and Bakura but I knew Ryou and Romano would be fine. Surprisingly even my two most skittish piggies are fine though. I think being inside and with a brave cagemate each they are okay.

Goodness, I wish I'd thought to do a topic on this. I've spend the last few days desensitizing all the animals we have to fireworks. I found a video on mums cell phone of fireworks going off, turned it to low, and played it around all the animals while giving them treats. They all seemed fine last night, no worries.
I also got my brother to run outside with a torch and flash it on and off outside the window so that my dog would get used to the flashes, while I fed him treats. Doing this before every fireworks occasion, to reinforce it is very important.
This is the video clip that I used:
If you want to train them using this, play the noise at very, very low, then slowly turn the sound up. All the while feeding them yummy treats. Hope this helps :-)

Amber is so use to the fireworks now she's not bothered, I was worried about Willow as its her first firework night but like Julesie said I think because Amber isnt scared she's being brave! Get the occation big bang and they run in but they soon come out :)!

Mostly it's my cats, I've shut my curtains so all they can hear is the bangs and not see the flashes. All you can do is reassure them, give them a treat with the loud bangs, they will assosicate the loud scary bangs with yummy treats, for dogs and cats that is, might work with pigs but never tried with piggies!

lap time, my rabbit hates fireworks so she as to be with me. I don't know why we have fireworks it sends people wild !

They are literally constant here right now. Fudge cant hear them (her hearing isnt great now bless her) and the other two stop and listen to the loud bangs but they continue as normal thankfully. My rescue bichon has been fine this year thankfully. She was rescued from a cruel pupp farm in wales where she lived in a cage and used as a breeding machine- she was scared of her own shadow when we got her 2 years ago. She isnt bothered at all this year which is amazing!

the only thing that seems too keep them settled is un salted potato chrisps every few mins ! perhaps the antisipation helps to keep them settled ?

All of mine from the dog to the piggies, rabbits and hamsters are oblivious to the fireworks.

I guess they are so used to all sorts of noise in our house that nothing bothers them.

They are all just getting on with business as usual, mainly eating and sleeping :D

:agr:nothing stops the important thing in a piggys life
eating, sleeping, and pooping :tu:

Thankfully we don't get many round here. Couldn't hear any inside last night so the piggies were okay, but its the one day of the year when our chooks don't lay any eggs!

l'm not suprised, it must be desturbing trying to lay an egg when there nervous,

@Loobyg83 , l loove chooks, how many have you got? would loove to see photos :)

@gizzy we have 4 - two warrens called Rosie and Skye and two black rocks called Diana and Bob (Bob was my husbands protest to living in an all female household with all female chickens.... and now all female piggies!). They have a run but spend 2-3 days a week roaming the garden. 10155407_10152763195371000_5612836498304718796_n.webp
Here they are being fed a marrow by my daughter on a roaming day and demolishing a few cabbages in their run!
