My guinea pig hasn't been acting normal lately and I noticed her belly was really firm and she won't let me pick her up anymore, because it bothers her. She eats and drinks a lot and never seems to be full, she'll squeak for food constantly throughout the day. She's gained 19g in just one day, without any diet change. Anyone have any ideas why her belly is firm?

How old is your piggy and has she ever been in contact with an intact boar? Could she be pregnant?

Signs of bloat usually include fluffed coat, lethargy, lack of poos or abnormal poos and a lack of interest in food.

If you are at all concerned it would be worth getting her vet checked especially if you think she's in any discomfort. Bloat would require vet treatment

I agree with everything above! A vet will be able to tell you if she is bloated, pregnant or has something else going on.
Good luck x

She is 3 years old, she was in contact with a male on May 24th or 25th due to a unknowing family member but I don't know how long they were together Her poop is normal and she doesn't show any of the other bloat signs, I hope she isn't pregnant

I hope everything is OK . Like the other posters, I also advise you get her checked by a vet. This is the best way to help you decide what to do for the best.

Are you happy to give us dome indication if your location ? We have members all over the world and it is really useful to know whether you are in the US / UK or elsewhere.

She could well be pregnant them - it only takes a moment, so if she had any contact at all then chances are high she is.
You should really take her to a vet as soon as possible just to confirm what is causing the changes.
If she isn't pregnant then she may have a stomach problem as others have mentioned and if this is the case she needs medical treatment.
A vet should also be able to confirm a pregnancy, and this would allow you time to prepare and ensure she is adequately supported.

could you please post some photos of her ?x

I live in the US and I'm searching for an exotic vet as of right now, I did have one but they said they don't treat exotic pets anymore. Anyone know a good exotic vet in Colorado? If she did get pregnant she'd be on her 3rd week so I won't know for sure till the 6th week. I'll get her checked out as soon as I can. I'll try to get a picture of her.

Thanks for the vet link, one is actually fairly close to my house, which is really good if she is actually pregnant and needs to be taken in for help.

That's really nice, and you're welcome! Keep us updated with anything the vet said!

Keep us posted, if it's blot they can go downhill quickly and if she's pregnant you certainly have some work ahead of you. Keeping my fingers crossed, keep us updated
