New Born Pup
Hi. I've just returned to the Forum after a gap (had to re-register as couldn't remember my user name or password!) so firstly hello. I have 5 of my own guineas (4 girls and one lucky boy) and foster too. Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place or asking questions already answered elsewhere (I've had a look and cant see what I am looking for). I've kept guineas for over 20 yrs and never had any probs until the last 5yrs or so, (hence my first question) and the probs have all stemmed from neutering boars.
Just a couple of queries a) can someone give me a basic "must have" first aid kit list, also if it includes critical care, does this have a long shelf life, should I get some in stock for "just in case",
and b) I've had a couple of boars neutered that have gone on to develop awful abscesses - both times vets have said "allergic reaction to suture material" (different vet surgeries) - is this a standard response - how big a problem is this do you think? Material used has been Vicryl and there always seems to be a suture that doesn't dissolve and needs cutting away. My last board went 4 weeks post op and I thought good, no problems then he developed a huge abscess.
Any tips/help on first aid kit and what do people think about the materials used for suturing?
Sorry for long post.
Many thanks
