First Attempt At Sewing A Pee Pad So Don't Laugh!

So got finally unpacked the sewing machine and got to making pee pads because i'm sick of washing pee pads every day because they only have a eight, four for under hidey's and four for under bowls and pee corners. This is my first attempt (second really as first was embarrassing) so don't laugh. Any suggestions and tips for future pads would be heaps appreciated :)
 
It looks fine.
I spent ages making my first few pee pads look perfect. I clipped corners, sewed slowly so the seams were super straight (well super straight for me anyway), etc
Ad then I realised that the guinea pigs didn't care, and less perfect pads worked just as well, plus I got the kids to start helping sew too, and these days mine are all random shapes and sizes, all of them are slightly wonky, and they all work just fine.
I think your looks perfect - well done.
 
Can you explain a pee pad to me? Sounds dumb I'm sure- do the guineas use it a bit like a little box for cats?

Mainly In a cage where people use fleece cage liners they use pee pads in highly used areas like under hides, places the piggies lye, under hay racks etc. As then they just take out the wet pee pad and swap for a clean one.

Hope I've explained it ok. Also some people may use them at lap time. Incase of any wee accidents. Lol.
 
That looks very good to me. I used to try to make mine look perfect but then despite pre shrinking they would still shrink a bit at different rates and pull out of shape. Now they are what ever they come out like! The piggies don't care and as my OH says they are only going to wee on it. My excuse is if it looks genuinely home made it's lovely and rustic.
 
That looks good. I love making pee pads for my two (by hand as I have no idea how to thread my sewing machine)!

By hand? You're a very dedicated piggie slave, how long does it take? I'm a terrible at hand sewing :(
 
great job! It looks perfect! and very useful! :clap:Now you can sew also different things... tunnels, pockets for sleeping. On google images you will find a lot of ideas and your sewing machine will be never switched off! :lol!:
 
Something I just learned: I tried to make it easier for myself and instead of leaving a gap in the space between corners I had a corner as part of the gap so when I finally had it right-side out I ended up making a wonky corner. Always leave your gaps in the MIDDLE!

I ended up buying another 2x4 liner from Etsy because while I CAN make my own, they aren't great quality, wrinkled and not always straight. I think it's best if I stick to fleece items smaller than cage liners.

I find it so hard to sew the gap. I always end up not sewing it straight :hb:
 
I found a packet of 6 of those "as seen on tv" chamois that apparently hold 10x it's weight in fluid and made a pad out of 1 as the inner and it's actually better than the ones I bought on ebay, stayed alot dryer for longer. Will see how it holds up after a few washes.
