I am giving Grimble his first free range time just now but he is just hiding in his cave! I have put his other toys out and am keeping an eye on him and loads of veggies hidden in his toys should i just leave him let him explore on his own? should I leave the room? xx

Hi!

Piggies are prey animals so they like their cover and hidey holes. Large open spaces scare a piggy at first and it takes quite a lot of time (and patience!) for a piggy to feel comfortable exploring a room! You might see him peek out and have a look but it will take weeks for him to feel totally confident doing his own thing when you let him out for floor time.

If you can, put his pigloo somewhere where you can sit or lie next to him. If you're moving around all he can see is a big scary thing moving around and he will stay put where he feels protected. By getting on the floor with him you're making yourself less threatening. Stroke him, talk to him, try hand feeding him his favourite veggies and help him feel comfortable. Make the experience as positive as you can for him and in time he will start to come round to the idea that he is safe and he has this lovely big space to go and explore!

Good luck with it! :)
