I know I know Mr. Bailee Boy's first dental appointment. He is scheduled for this Friday the 20th to get his molars filed down and his bottom incisors trimmed. They want me to drop him off at 10am and he will get GA. He is almost 5yrs old and very healthy. They told me that it will cost $175 US dollars plus the cost of pain meds and antibiotics if he needs it. I definitely want him to have pain meds. Unfortunately he will need another dental appointment soon there after due to the fact that about 5 months ago he broke one of his top incisors either by drinking from his water bottle or by eating something hard like a corn kernel which caused that tooth to get pushed in somewhat and is growing inward and is all yellow in color and at times stinky. So as a precaution to abcess or infection the exotic pet vet advised me that its okay to dip a cotton Q-TIP in hydrogen peroxide and dab it around and on the bad tooth which will then bubble up a little to show that its cleaning out any type of build up or minor infection. I asked the billing department as to the cost of a permanent tooth removal and they gave me a $300 US dollars estimate which will be billed as a surgery. Do these fees seems high or are they normal? Also how long does it take for the GA to wear off? And how long will the procedure take?

I'm not sure about the price comparisons, sorry. As for how long it takes for the GA to wear off, I find that this really does vary by piggy. Age can play a part too - I have found that younger pigs can be up and about and eating as normal within a few hours, but older pigs can take 24-48 hours to really seem like themselves again.

Painkillers will play a very important role with this operation as a piggy in pain can refuse to eat, but it's important that they start eating again as soon as possible. Dental operations can leave a piggy quite sore for a few days afterwards.

Best of luck!

Best of luck for Mr Bailee Boy, echo Jerrybellys post on painkillers, they are most important.

I'm pretty sure the vet or nurse will wait until he's come around - procedure wise... I don't know shouldn't be longer then a few hours. Good luck and hopefully he'll be more comfortable once he's had his surgery! We send our love!
