Hi all!

My girl Frankie is my first ever long haired pig. I think she's Peruvian.
I rescued her a couple of months back with her short haired pal, Sue.

I'm just looking for some UK recommendations for good scissors or silent clippers. I've skimmed the grooming tips on here so I feel more confident but I want to make it as quick and as stress free as possible for her.

Thanks in advance all!
Laura

You can get dog grooming scissors with blunt tips on Amazon. They use them for tidying beards and the hair between dogs' paws. I got any old rechargeable trimmer and hair dresser's scissors. The scissors are extremely sharp so you have to be absolutely certain of what is between the blades before you close them. The electric trimmer was accepted by Truffle, who puts up with it. The advantage is it's quick and safer than scissors. In the heat waves, Truffle would be terribly unhappy in a long coat unless we had air conditioning, so trimming is essential. I like to try to remove some of the fur around his ears as they lose heat through their ears and it helps in hot weather 🥰

The scissors are useful for tidying up the trousers underneath as they are prone to getting peed on sometimes and may attract mats. I find I need to check for mats every day in winter. Sometimes Truffle prompts me by being easier to catch than usual because he has a mat that is worrying him 🥰 They can also bite off the ones they can reach, so you might notice your piggy fussing at something and it's a mat 🤨

Thank you for all your help and advice! It's really helpful x

@Betsy has written a guide to fur dressing for long haired piggies which is very helpful.
My tech skills are still Stone Age so I can’t link it for you.

My long haired girl, Priscilla, used to have her bum fur trimmed regularly, I combed her fur when I did the health checks and she had a good all over trim in the summer.
