My two baby piggies are going for the their first vet check today. I was going to take them regardless of any symptoms just for a general check but I've noticed they are scratching and biting themselves which I think could be mites. So I've made an appointment for later on today. Hopefully it will be a simple treatment.

Hope it all goes ok. It does sound like maybe mange mites. Treatment would be with Ivermectin, but would be 3 doses at least a week apart. I prefer the injections as they go straight into the bloodstream but some vets will only use spot on. Mange mites can be brought on by the stress of a new home and are pretty common in new pigs. The vet will need to rule out fungal too though.

Welcome to the forum, please let us know how they get on. Hope all goes well

Could I ask you to add your location to your profile as it helps us tailor any advice to your location. Welcome once again

The verdict was that they both have lice. Little white things crawling around. The vet has treated them with spot on and said I should see a difference within a couple of weeks. Not allowed to touch that area until it no longer looks wet so no cuddles tonight. They were both very good for the vet and are back in fresh fleece bedding now having a rest. Will update soon on whether the treatment has worked
