Last night I took my new girls to the vet for the first time (First time for me too as I'm a new owner!) He confirmed my suspicion that they had mites and dosed Parsley with Xeno 450, but as he only had one tube left (!?) I've had to order some myself to finish the course for both of them. He did offer to order it in to the clinic for me, and that might have been cheaper, but I'd rather do it myself at home so I don't have to go down and collect it. And it gave me an excuse to buy them some little treats from VetUK.

He also showed me how to clip their nails and gave them a once over, giving them a clean bill of health aside from the mites, so that's good news. The vet was very lovely, even drawing me a diagram of the structure of the nail and the quick. I did know already but I didn't like to discourage such a great bedside manner!

Hopefully we won't be seeing him for a while and my girls will stay happy and healthy, not least because they sulked for ages when we got home and wouldn't even come out to eat their veggies for a good 20 minutes. They seem to have forgiven me now, though, and they both let me stroke them in the cage last night. Not bad for day 3, I think!

So, two weeks on, and I have a question:
Parsley was dosed with Xeno 450 on 17th Jan, and I've seen no mites on either of them since 20th Jan. I'll dose them both on Monday 28th, but do I have to complete the course of 3 doses each or would it be enough to leave it at that? Parsley will have had two doses by then, and Nutmeg one.
In a way I'd rather not give them the drugs if I don't have to, I don't like to think of them having chemicals in their systems for no reason, and it'd be good to have some Ivermectin around in case I need it in the future.

sorry i know this is months later.. but It is REALLY important to finish the correct doses if drugs given. or the mites can build up resistance which is really bad news! (theres already resistance in cattle to alot of the parasite drugs)
