Well the boys went for a health check today at the vets i've just registered with and the nurse there certainly knows what she is doing, plus she owns piggies herself. She had to refer them to the vet, which i'll get to in a min, but the vet specialises in small mammals and he is a piggie owner too :)

Anyway, I feel really bad because they have mites. And they've probably had them when I got them. I noticed scabs on one of them a few days after I got them and was given some treatment from where they came from. But the vet has advised me one treatment is not enough and they will need another treatment in 10 days time and a further treatment 10 days after that. So i've cleaned them out today and thoroughly disinfected the cage and now they're getting the proper treatment they will be fine. Apart from that they are very healthy piggies and they had all their teeth checked and there is no problems there.

I just feel awful thinking of my babies being all itchy and in pain, and Elvis is the worst so that's probably why he has been all shy and timid poor thing :(

Next time, any sign of anything being wrong i'm taking them both straight to the vets. What a bad mummy I am 8...

It's not easy to spot things with new piggies. You have them seen by a good vet and treated - it is always a good idea to have a vet MOT with new piggies unless you are rehoming from a reputable rescue.

3-4 rounds of treatment for mites are standard so you catch any hatching eggs in skin. You should hopefully see an improvement within two days and an end to scratching within 1-2 weeks.

I was told they had been health checked before they were brought to me. Obviously they weren't or they don't know what they are doing. Bit worrying as they came from a rescue :{
