Fitz's Abscess - New Pic

I "think" i am almost there with this - i did get a largeish lump out today & now all the hardness seems to have gone.
I'm still flushing but it's getting more difficult because of the size of the hole.
How many days do you NOT have to get anything out of it before you should stop flushing?
How many days should his course of Baytril last?
The vet didn't say anything & in my anger i forgot to ask. He's been on Baytril 5 full days today.

Well we found Ralfies wednesday, he went on baytril thursday and was off it on tuesday i think, it looks so much better, Ralfies did that, got smaller by the day and i was almost closed the last time we flushed it then we just let it heal! Sorry if thats no help! Glad he'ss improved a lot though well done you and Fitz :smitten:

I 'think' it's 48 hours of no gunk before you can leave it to finish healing on it's own. Looks loads better though gal! O0

If there is no puss after 30 hours ,let the hole start to heal over.Have you tried putting High Potency Manuka honey into the hole?,this can aid healing and will help to destroy the infection.If the skin around the hole is getting sore,you could use Calendula or Kamilosan cream,both are soothing.

Continue with the Baytril until the wound is clear of pus,then give 2 more doses,then stop.

Thanks Mary, every day, between salt soaks the hole has "healed over" with congealed blood & I have to re-open it. I haven't tried the honey but i have flushed it with Baytril a couple of times.

All I would add as a caution is that Scarby's 0 abscess seemed clear for a wheek and then came back. However it was a huge one where he had the incision for liver resection.

Looking at Fitz's pigture I would say that Scarby's 0 was a lot worse.

So don't worry O0

Stay on the baytril till end of the weekend as precautionary, what i got told by the vets always take for a week, and flush till then if possible other than that wipe the area as well if hole closed over O0
