My five year old sow has been losing hair around her bottom and legs, at first we thought she was pulling it out, but the way it feels stubbly, almost like it been burnt (which it hasn't)
I wonder if anyone has any insight on this?

Poor piggy. Has she seen a vet yet? Have you seen her biting at the area? It could be pain from arthritis that is bothering her. Is the skin underneath normal? And is her weight stable?

I’d get her in at the vets for a check up and see if they can help. Good luck.

I’m sorry to hear this

The fact it is being left with a stubbly feeling means the hair is being bitten off (barbering) - if she is doing it to herself then it can be due to discomfort in the area (so arthritis can be a potential reason). Do have her seen by a vet

I’ve added a guide about barbering below

Barbering (Eating Hair)

I hope she is ok

we are planning a vet vist soon for her, since we have noticed that she has been losing quite a bit of weight, she's still been eating a lot, she had gotten into a biting around the area

I’m sorry to hear that she is also losing weight (50g or more of loss becomes of concern). She may still be eating but her hay intake has reduced and caused the weight loss. This can occur when there is a pain element going on.
Step in with syringe feeding her (60ml per day) to stop any further weight loss and do see the vet, ideally this week, if she has lost a considerable amount of weight

I hope she is ok

Good luck at the vets. Hopefully some pain meds will make her feel more comfortable 🤞🏻🤞🏻
