Hey everyone
One of my guineas has recently been treated for mite. She now seems much better, although she has some flaky skin (almost looks like dandruff). I know you can get shampoo for this, but does anyone know the name of it?
Also will both my girls need to be bathed in it or will it be ok to just do the one who has the bad skin?
x

Nizoral can be used on dandruff but that is usually if fungal is diagnosed. Another alternative is Alphosyl. You would need to patch test behind the ear for 48 hours first. I would bath both girls in case it is fungal. Was the mite diagnosis through a vet? what were they treated with?

Ok great thank you :)
Yes it was diagnosed by a vet and treated over a 6 week period.
I've only treated the one though as the vet told me not to treat both. I did think this was a bit strange but only treated the one as that's what was recommended? I think it was Ivermectin she was treated with? x

Was it spot on or injection?

The dry skin could be from the mites but we can't rule out a fungal issue too as it is common for a pig to get both. Therefore it would not hurt to treat with a mild fungal product. The Alphosyl is gentle and has a bulit in conditioner. The other option is a product called Imaverol which is also gentle and an emollient. It is used as a dip and it is very effective. I think I would use this over the Alphosyl. It would treat the dry skin and also get rid of any lurking fungal issues.

It was a spot on. 3 spot ons every two weeks for the 6 weeks.
I'll look into getting one of these shampoos ASAP to hopefully sort out the issue :)

If you get Imaverol it is a dip that is left on to dry and not rinsed off. This would be the most effective.
