Hello all,

I am thinking of trialling some flea spray or wipes for my two pigs. I have been recommended a couple of brands (should I say which?) and would like to know if people would recommend whether to use the spray or the wipes or a combination of the two? Thanks!

Matt

Guinea pigs don't get fleas :)

They can get static mites (or hay lice) or running lice both of which need treating with special shampoo & baths.

Personally I wouldn't ever spray guinea pigs with anything like that as they have very sensitive nervous systems & you may tragically lose them if you use chemicals sprays. It's a risk I would never take myself, I prefer to treat with shampooing if there are signs f the above.

Ah! Thanks Poppy's Mum! I have considered the shampoo but our little guy hates water, which is why I considered the spray or wipes. I think based on what you have said I'll try the wipes.

Thanks again!

Another thing to remember is that treatments for flee's etc bought from shops are a lot weaker and so vets can supply stronger treatments (:

I have actually used the wipes (I know which ones you mean I think?) and found them to get rid of the lice/surface mites very quickly. I was impressed with them as they are not insecticidal.

The burrowing mites will need a visit to the vets.

I also don't agree about the fleas not being on guinea pigs - they will try anything - including me mallethead
