Ok I need a bit of advice please.....what do guineapig fleas look like? are they easy to spot is there a preventative treatment? and whats the best way to treat? :...

mites - how to spot and what to do? :{

and does a fungal infection resemble human dandruff? mallethead

Hope you guy's can give me some advice on these ta x x>>

fungal infection depends on what type it is, if its ringworm then the most common thing you get is round patches of dry skin and hair missing and with any fungal you get thick scabs, genreally around the head area.

Dont think pigs can get fleas.

Mites/lice they are hard to find unless you know what your looking for. You have to look at where their hair joins their body and if you have any yoo will see tiny little peach/fleshy coloured things moving towards the base of their hair.
To treat your best going for ivermectine or a product with ivermectine inti, I believe you can get spot on type treatment from pet shops now but I'm not 100% on that

pigs can get dry skin like use and people really rate the gerougous(sp?) guineas shampoos for this.

mites are not visible to the naked eye, lice are! I would do preventative shampoos for both if you are worried a month apart. If you have a problem already please visit a vet as the treatment protocol is different for fungus and parasites

Just out of curiosity, if you can't see mites, how would you know that your piggy had them?

you can see them if you look down a microscope, your piggy will tell you if they are having mite trouble as they will be very itchy!

Thankyou - already use gorgeous guineas - my mum was the one that thought they had fleas....but as yet they aren't scratching and as it's doubtful they get them I'll just keep a close eye - one of them just had tiny flakes of dry skin but they seem to have disappeared- more worried about what stuff looked like and when vet's were needed....ta muchley! :)p

Here are links to parasites and fungus including recommended treatment:

Also look up links to mites and lice.

If in doubt, see your vet; do not try to make your own diagnosis if you are not experienced. Mistreatment can do more harm than good and won't help your piggy.

Thanks for the links! looked all over but have got some lice n easy shampoo already just in case ta xinbreeding
