I was wondering what the likelihood of my guinea pigs of getting fleas are. I'm staying at my boyfriend's both nights over the weekend (they are at home with my folks but I will be going to see to them each day - the pigs I mean) and there's a chance his dogs have fleas, because they were treated topically but only once, it wasn't repeated later.
My pigs will not becoming in to contact with the dogs or be in the house/a house with them at any point, but I was wondering if it's possible they could stay on my clothes, travel to my house via me and end up with the pigs infected...
And if this happens what are the signs of fleas?
I know it's unlikely they will get fleas from this but I wanted to check (if they do I'll have an emergency hair wash/clothes change when I get to mine). Saying all of this, I've been toing and froing from his house whilst the dogs had fleas (I didn't know), so yeah - kinda worried.

The main things you want to avoid is petting a flea infested animal then pettiing your guinea pig.

If the guineas are not staying at the house then i would say it’s safe as although fleas can bite on humans they shortly after die, as they can’t live on us. If you are careful and wash you and your clothes i’d say you’d be safe :)

*** also as an addition i think you’d just have to check your guineas for any red bites that look like flea bites if you were worried they had fleas but I'm sure they would be fairly visible :)

Alright :) I'll check them over later, like I said there was a chance the dogs had fleas before and I didn't know, so would have gone home and hugged the pigs :( But, I haven't noticed any unusually excessive scratching or black bits in their hair.
I thought it'd be unlikely they could go from the dogs, to me, to my house, to the pigs but it's better to check (I only live 5 minutes away so it's not like I'm giving the fleas a long period of time to die in...as morbid as that sounds).

I’m sure you’ll be fine, i’ve never seen a pig with flea’s and i’ve had one of my pigs living in the same house as my cat and she occasionally had the odd flea when we timed her frontline wrong sort of thing but my pigs have always been fine :)

That's great to hear :) Thank-you. I'm gonna try and get some Gorgeous Guineas lice shampoo (if I can add it to my current order, my budget isn't as rubbish as I thought it was) anyway so if for whatever reason is does happen, those fleas won't last long! Then again, saying that, I'm pretty sure any shampooing kills fleas because they drown.
By the way - love your avatar. Looks just like my Noah :)

I’d really like to try Gorgeous Guineas but my budget is always rubbish! Haha, i’m saving up for some nice beds at the minute. It’s expensive keeping guinea pigs in the luxurious life they become accustomed too rolleyes
Thank you! Thats my little heavy weight Chester pig, tipping the scales at 3.4lbs :') Flea’s wouldn’t last long on him probably because he’d just eat them. He eats anything and everything!

Fingers crossed your flea free ! :))

Don't think it's likely you will transfer fleas to your guineas so don't worry. Washing an animal doesn't kill fleas though, you might get rid of one or two but not all. Guineas are not particularly flea-prone though so like I said, I wouldn't worry :)

I've been debating buying GG stuff for ages but the postage costs have held me back. But I've been sad of recent so I'm just like never mind my budget, expensive piggy shampoo haha. I've ordered the Just For Boars shampoo, a trial of the lice and easy and a trial of the coconeem melt, so excited for using them!
Work were lovely and decided to tell me they didn't need to keep me on anymore with no notice you see, and they did it in the week I finished uni...so I panicked a lot about saving the money I've got. But I've got a child minding job which is gonna be £25 a week, not a lot but luckily my parents won't make me pay rent if I'm not earning a steady wage, and I'm trying to go mad with photography bookings. At least the pigs will be clean and popcorning :))

Wowww that's a heavy piggy! Bless him :) Noah and Elmo are both over a kilo but I don't know it in pounds. They aren't too fat but every now and then Noah gets a little roll while he's eating which is adorable :))

Doesn't it? Oh, I thought the water would drown them. But I'm glad you don't think they'll get them :D Thankfully after looking after the dogs for my boyfriend for a few days, I haven't seen them scratching excessively. But it's more so the furniture/carpets that are a worry - harder to avoid.

I better add in that I've saved up a lot for quite some time, hence me not panicking about my lack of income over the summer months, before anyone thinks I don't have the funds aside for the boys. Noah gets through so much veg that if I hadn't been saving for a while, money would be a SERIOUS worry for me :)) Luckily I'm a student at home so my overheads aren't too hideous!
