Fleas?

Can guineas get fleas? If so can anyone show me a pic of them as my girls with white hair have tiny dark dots on their hair and I'm not sure if it's just dust off the hay or wet her the fleas are extremely small thanks

I've only had them a week it was just from a normal shop that had a little pet section where's best to get it from?

Many of us on here hay from the online company called hay for pets ive used pet shop hay and found much of it poor quality this we use is brillant my boys are doing so I think this hay I use must have something to do with it, ive not had any problems with the hay or my piggies since using it

I'm rubbish at adding links I will find some info on the shampoo for you and report back asap

They look the same, it's hard to tell via photos hun but ive tagged Helen to check what is the best treatment I'm sure she will be able to advise you better then me or Wiebke she may reply soon as they both cover the illness thread

Sounds like it could be hay mites, but you need an official diagnosis really from the vets. It is difficult to tell from the photo. Some people use Gorgeous Guineas Lice and Easy but I tend to use Lyclear Creme rinse instead. Whatever you use you need to patch test behind the ear for 48 hours first. Make sure you throw out any infected hay or bedding and clean using a proper pet discinfectant. I always recommend F10. I believe in some cases it is best to clip the infected hair off. They can also be treated with Ivermectin, but it would need to be at least 48 hours apart from any bath and ideally prescribed by the vet.

Another possibility is that it is skin debris from mange mites (which you cannot see), does the hair seem broken half way down the shaft at all?

No it all seems okay however I have noticed my longer hair one has occasional small tufts of hair that just fall out I'm not sure if that's just cos she's long haired though or what I'll look into getting them into a vets at the end of the week, can't right now as haven't got the money til Thursday

It could just be normal moulting but it is best to get it checked out if you are concerned.

Dunno if this helps I've just found this on my girls ear she has a natural bald patch but has small scab type things on her ear is this mites or maybe from fighting or what?
