Hello all,
So midnight and I just moved into a new apartment and I think that there were fleas before we got here, and as a result, I am pretty sure midnight got them. I dont think they are lice because they're not white and I don't think they're mites because I can see them. They jump around like fleas. I have not see any on him, however, he's black, so its pretty hard to see them. I saw one in his cage and I just moved in so my mom was sleeping on the floor in his room and said she thought she saw one on her arm. What does everybody think? And if they are fleas, how should I treat him for them? Like I said, I just moved here, its a new state so I have not found a vet yet and was hoping to not have to take him if it's a common and easily treated thing. Thanks guys!

I would consider fumigating the apartment ( make sure that you have got the piggies and any other animals safely out of the way while it is done). Fleas are species specific; guinea pigs don't have fleas that can survive on them for any length of time, even though they can become a short term nuisance. Most likely the apartment had a dog owner at some point.

I am a bit wary to recommend an insecticidal shampoo, as many contain substances that are harmful (or even lethal) to guinea pigs, so you have to extremely careful if you want to use a small animal one; normally these shampoos are not necessary as there are better ways to treat species specific parasites. Perhaps a normal shampoo will wash out any fleas?

Okay, thank you! I did see somewhere else that a normal bath can solve the problem. I'll try that! :)
