I'm worried that my pigs might be susceptible to fleas. Our dog and cats are being treated for them (including the carpets), and while the pigs are separate from the other animals by the basement, I saw one on my arm while I was holding George. If in the event they do get exposed and end up with fleas, what can I do to treat them? I don’t want them to get poisoned, but I don’t want them to suffer either. Anybody have any ideas?

The most common anti parasite treatment for piggies is ivectromicin (probably spelt wrong.) This is given as a spot on like for cats and dogs (other than in sever cases where it is injected) A vet can prescribe it, or some pet shops sell it.

Unfortunatly me giving brand names isnt very helpfull given your location, hopefully some other US members can direct you to the brands over there. :)

There are different species of flea which are specialised to live on different host animals. Most household infestations in the uk are the cat flea Ctenocephalides felis (sp?) which also lives on dogs. If you treat the dogs, cats and carpets it should be unnecessary to treat other pets. Or humans, for that matter!
