My friend has been coming to mine with her new dog which ive now just found out has fleas! She's been here everday She's a rescue dog and ive heard stories of how many dogs have fleas in these places!

Whats the chances my boys has them? I know Fleas can get everywhere

My partner is going to pick up some houseold flea spray tomorrow so i can spray my house .

Is this your dog your worried about having them? Or your guinea pig? Sorry to sound stupid.

Guinea pigs. Its my friends dog that has them, that has been in my house everyday this week. I only found out the dog had them last night, which has been 4 days since she first started coming to mine.

I'm not sure if Guinea pigs can get fleas from dogs or not.

As far as I know, fleas are pretty species-specific. So, for example, dog fleas would rather be on a dog! That said, a stray flea will find the nearest host in a pinch, so you and your guineas could get the odd bite if any jumped off the dog while it was with you.

The usual things apply I think. Keep everything clean, and keep an eye out for excessive scratching from your pigs. One trick to see if there are any fleas about is to stick a bowl of warm water under a radiator or in a corner somewhere. The fleas (if any) will head to the warm liquid and drown.

Do not spray the house whilst the piggies are indoors! Please remove them to somewhete else first as piggies are very sensitive to chemicals.

Ooh, also, if you do want to treat your surfaces you can use a non - chemical method. You mix up equal measures of baking soda and salt, then shake it all over the carpets and the furnishings and work it in a little before leaving it overnight. Apparently it dries out the fleas and eggs so they can't jump, reproduce or hatch. Hoover thoroughly in the morning, and that should get the worst up. You might have to hoover a couple of times to get all the salt mix up.

You can also stick a flea collar in your hoover, to kill any surviving ones that get sucked up when you clean.

We removed all the animals before doing the house. I dont even have air freshners in my house because of the animals :(

We are going to get some spot on stuff and tomorrow and do them all, the rabbit and hamster just to be on the safe side.

The pigs should be fine, I wouldn't bother with Spot on waste of pennies. If you really want to treat them I would use.

Providing they are all indoors and make sure they are dried, as the temperature is very cold at the moment!
