ive noticed that on pics of houses alit of you seem to use fleece for the bottom or you cages.
why is this
and how do * clean it and how often
I'm using sawdust but it gets everywhere

Fleece is just an alternative bedding, i use it because one of my pigs has an allergy to sawdust and on top of that has hay fever so the best thing for him is fleece.

To keep it clean it requires to be poop scooped at least once daily where you use either a sweeping pan and brush or hand held vacuums to remove the poops then every 3 days or so you change the bedding and wash it in the machine and replace it with fresh while that one is cleaned :)

I am a new guinea pig owner and use fleece just because it seems easier than changing sawdust every day [plus I have asthma so I was worried it might set me off!]

I do a poop clean up every morning, and then change the fleece and put a new clean one in every 3rd day. Some people do it less than this [I know a lot of people only change the fleece once a week] but I live in a small flat so I thought it best to change on a more regular basis to stop my living room smelling as I have two boars! :)

Under the fleece is newspaper, which just soaks up any moisture. Its definitely an easier method of bedding to handle, but if you do decide do use it, make sure you wash your fleeces without fabric softener as it reduces the absorptivity. Also, its best to hang the fleece outside before washing to get rid of any excess hay, if not you might have a broken washing machine very soon! :))

I also use fleece. I can't imagine using anything else. I did use towels under my fleece when I first got my Piggies but I got sick of soaking lots of towels before washing. So now I've make my own fleece cage liners with a mattress cover sewn to the fleece. The cage liner will usually last for 5 days before I have to wash it. I also spot clean once everyday.

well i got my piggies on friday so they had sawdust then n changed fully today.
its just sawdust i had in anyway but I'm getting low so was considering something less messy as they in my front room
ive put a litter tray in but dont know how successful this will be..
it used to be sucsessful with the rabbit..
they r quite clean things tho..
can i just any fleece?
with newspaper under?

I use fleece for both my guineapigs and rabbit. It looks neater and (If cleaned regularly) keeps the cage clean too. Instead of scooping out bedding everyday
you can just sweep out the poops easily. Also, i think its comfyer for them to lien on instead of straw or wood shavings.
To clean it you just shake of any hay or food and wash it in the washing machine :P I tend to completely clean mine everyday since i have a shop bought cage which is okay for now but quite small. When my c&c cage arrives i'll probably clean fully every 3 days and spot clean every day as usual. :D

Litter training guinea pigs is rarely sucessfull, and it depends on the piggy as to how clean they are, but i find my piggies love the fleece and it saves so much money! :)
