My lounge and dining room is now covered in tiny bits of fleece. I have got one big bedspread for the top level of the cage nearly done - pictures later today when daugther number one comes in and I find out where her camera is!

It is going ok though I have discovered that fleece in large pieces has a tendency to change shape when you sew it!

Anyway I have my problem solving head on and I think the next one will be easier. The first bedspread for each level seems to be a bit fiddly but then I think I will know what I am doing.

I have already done a bedspread for the hayloft - I am doing the second one for that last as it is diddy comparaed to the others.

I am off work today making last minute piggy preparations, and hopefully by tonight I should be finished.

I should have done it already but my weekend off evaporated into rushing about and not getting anything done (not an unknown occurrence in this house.

Anyway more fleece to get out of the attic and a dishwasher to feed.

Wish me luck!

Best of luck!

When sewing my piggy bedsheets i have been double the about of pin i would normally use as was having problems with stretching too!

Making things is very exciting. Are your bedspreads just fleece or are you combining it with an absorbent layer? Am having my own trial runs this week- small pieces because I'm sewing by hand, don't want to spend days sewing a complete set to decide I should have done it differently! Definitley want to see pics when you're done. :)

LOL sounds like you have a very busy day ahead, good luck i think you will need it :(|)

Good luck and cant' wait to see the finished items hun :(|)

Well I finished the bedspread for the big top level - not entirely happy with it but it has been relaxing in the cage for a few hours so it fits ok now. I have also done an absorbent mat for the ramp to the hayloft, and that has turned out well.

No more sewing for a couple of days due to work, but I will be back on track on Thursday on my day off.

It looks like I will be gotting the piggies next week if all goes to plan OMG I am so excited!!

:(|):(|):(|):(|):(|)

Woohoo!

Currently on a break - have nearly finished the second bedspread for the big top level. I just have to sew up a couple of seams and put some elastic in (it is like a fitted sheet) - then it is sewing the second little one for the hayloft which shouldn't take long, then finishing the cage botttom level so that I can do the two bedpreads for that.

When I have peeled myself of the floor after all that I need to sort out my two fleeces for the corrall, which will just be cutting it and seeing if it needs a hem around it.

I think I will be sewing the zorb onto the bedspreads as I had it loose up till now - the hayloft one already has zorb sewn into the base. I am still waiting for the second lot of zorb to come from Canada - could be another month yet so for the bottom level I will probably use layered inco pads loose underneath the fleece.

Once I have done those jobs I think I am finished woohoo.

Wait a minute - forgot the two fleece mats fo the carriers doh :red

Well it will be finished by then - and so I suspect will I!

I am getting tired just thinking about it. Anyway every fleece gets a bit quicker to do as I think I know what I am doing now.

All I can say is thank goodness for the IKEA lack coffee tables. We have four for the front room and they are currently a coroplast tray stand so I can keep checking the fit as I do the next bit on the fleece.

I keep singing a version of Robbie and Kylie - "Doing it for the pigs..."

I used pins this time so it seems to be easier to sew!

At last a picture:

This is one of the fleeces for the top level - I have to do two for the bottom level and one more for the hayloft yet, but they should be finished by the end of the weekend.

Here is another one:

This is the first one which was not as successful - I will unpick a bit of this when the others are finished and sirt out the bits that are not quite right.

That looks fabulous! x)
I have to ask though, and sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you go on with cleaning something like that? The amount my boys wee and throw poo everywhere it would be in the washing machine every single day rolleyes

It should be fine to clean - there will be access doors on every side of the bottom level, and the coroplast trays just lift out - one whole side drops down of the bottom level to take out the tray for cleaning. The bedspreads are held on with elastic so they are easy to get off and put on.

We plan to hoover poop twice a day and change the fleece as necessary. There are two of each cover so that one will be in the wash and one on the cage.

I may add some fleece blankets with absorbent backing in heavy soil areas if necessary.

The small upstairs bit is the hayloft where we are hoping they will make a lot of mess :(|)

The perspex is from http://www.theplasticman.co.uk/ - you can order perspex cut to size and drilled to your specification.

It looks really, really nice!

Soon I won't be able to resist zorb... What does it feel and look like? How thick is it?What's it like to sew?

I have three piggies in a 110x180 on fleece with a hay crate. I hoover once a day and only do a full change once a week. I use extra pieces of fleece under favourite hideys and change those every second day or so. A big cage is a lot easier to take care of, really!

I can't wait to see your cage in action!
