It appears lots of people are useing fleece as bedding until recently I have never seen this being done or even heard of it:red can anyone tell me how to cope with hygeine when it comes to fleece and surely they would wee on it!?
Sorry to sound really stupid but just curious. Thanks xx

Yup fleece is a great form of bedding as it's very absorbent, easy to clean and can be washed and reused. A lot of people who have fleece buy a cheap piece of fabric and then put liners underneath such as towels or puppy pads to make it waterproof. These would have to be changed when you clean the cage. You can also buy all in one cage liners that have two layers of fleece and a layer of wadding and a waterproof fabric in the middle. These can be bought online from places like Cosy Cavies & you can also find tutorial vids on how to make them yourself.
With regards to smell, it only really gets bad if you leave it for ages. I change mine once a week and it's fine. To wash them I recommend putting the fleece inside an old duvet cover and tying the end up so that any excess hay doesn't get inside your washing machine.
My boys both love fleece. I had real problems with wood shavings as it would get stuck to their hair and it had to be changed so often that it wasn't cost effective.
Oh and also, with fleece its a good idea to wash and dry about 3 times before you use it as this activates the wicking properties in the fabric and the wee will soak through quicker and wont sit on the top
Hope this helps :)

Thanks!
