fleece issues

I have changed my guinea pigs from wood chippings to fleece. The fleece i am using is 100% polyester. The trouble is my guinea pigs have a hay rack and they tend to wee where the hay is alot. The hay is becoming soggy and reulting in the fleece taking alot longer to dry? do you think the fleece is unsuitable for my piggys?

If you put in a litter tray full of newspaper and hay they should use that to pee in a good bit. mine do anyway. like this ...

Hi,

I use a litter tray filled with either woodshavings or carefresh then I have a hayrack on the bars over the littertray so when they eat the hay they also go to the tolie in the littertay and the hay doesn't spread all over the fleece

Thanks alot. I will be doing this from now on. Do the guinea pigs do it themselves or do they need training?

I built an extra level for a kitchen with a correx tray with higher sides sawdust on the bottom to absorb pee.

My girls are great and they pee and poo in the hay most of the time but my boys are territorial and pee eeeeverrrrywhere. it just depends. alot of people say that guinea pigs cant be litter trained. its just depends on the pig and how clean they are

I also use a litter tray with hay racks and mine tend to just go in the litter tray. They needed no training at all and just decided that was the best place to go . It helps keep hay off the fleece AND they wee in it |)

I also have two boys and they seem to just go to the toilet where ever they are at the time. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it

i only put profleece in 3/4 of the cage, and the other quarter is a fleece blanket usually, with extra towels under, and that is filled with hay for them to burrow in. they toilet mostly there aswell, so i just change that everyday, and the rest of the cage every other day. they have hay in a treat ball over that area aswell. works well
