Hi. I have 4 boars that live in 2 pairs. I'm building them new cages and was going to purchase new liners. I use fleece which works really well for us and have been using fleece liners from Kavee. I dint know why it hasn't bothered me before, but the fleece gets very wet easily. They pee on the fleece, it soaks the pee through but doesn't hold in the fleece and goes straight through to the bottom, making the chloroplast wet. So it stains the chloroplast and is just wet and you can still feel the pee on the top layer (the fleece does wick, the pee doesn't pool on the surface). Anyone else experienced this with Kavee liners? Do you know of any other fleece liners that I could try (the fleece would need to fit C&C cage measurements). Thanks.

It sounds like you need an absorbent layer under the fleece. In my heavy pee areas I put a layer of newspaper or puppy pads underneath and small fleece pee pads on top. The pee pads are changed every other day, sometimes daily.

If you search fleece liners there are quite a few threads discussing suppliers. There have been other members saying their Kavee fleece liners aren't very good. I can't recommend any commercial liners as I make my own.

Noodle bath mats in high traffic areas are good. I have one for a messy drinker and change it daily.

I discovered AFTER ending guinea-keeping that I'd been using the supposedly absorbent liners upside down! The blue side was meant to be underneath and white on top. If that doesn't sound familiar, then you don't have those particular cloths in the UK. They weren't fleece.

I ordered zorb liners from CandE cosies. They can be custom made and there are the standard measurements for c&c cages too. I like them a lot, not bulky and dry super quick. I ordered 2 smaller sizes to cover the whole cage as it makes cleaning easier. That plus noodle mats in high traffic areas and I don't have problem with wetness.
It took a couple washes to wick them tough.

I use big mats in the fleece half of the cage and newspaper and hay in the hay half. I also add smaller absorbent mats in the high traffic areas, especially under their ikea dolls bed and under their pound shop plastic stool.

I bought kavee liners for my old set up but ended up keeping them for me, on the end of my bed cos they were so pretty!

We have CandECosies pee pads and homemade ones (using the same zorb stuff they use) on top of Kavee liners. The pee does wick away, but the coroplast does end up with damp patches under the most used bits. It did take a few washes for the wicking to become effective.

I’m tempted to go back to my original setup of fleece on top of layers of old towels, the thought of all the laundry is off-putting though.

I use a patchwork of smaller fleeces with pee pads and bath mats in certain areas. This way not everything needs changing at the same time.

Forgot to say - I don’t think the Kavee ones wiil hold onto liquid, as I understand it the insides are polyester wadding (like soft toy stuffing or quilting batting).

Hi bubble64, I’ve also heard that the Kavee liners don’t actually have a proper absorbent middle and waterproof bottom, which is a pity as they are so expensive!

When looking for fleece liners or pee pads, try to make sure whoever you’re buying from is very clear about what the absorbent middle layer is made from. Most reputable sellers will clearly explain what all the layers are made from and how they help to absorb or contain the pee.

The gold standard is a zorb middle layer, and a waterproof bottom layer. That’s what I make and use for my piggies, and it works very well!
