indoors sorry should of made that clear x

I think that fleece is better indoors because its softer on your pigs feet and is cheaper but it is very high maintenence.

I've got mine on fleece but washing every two days.Have litter trays as well

I found fleece really smelly, despite keeping it clean and prepping it right! Although I know so many people recommend it so I would say go with that :) must feel nice on those little piggy feet!

Yes I am worried it will be smelly and high maintenance what is high maintenance about fleece ? X

It has to be washed every three days. I use vetbed and towels. I would never use shavings. I think they are very unhealthy for guinea pigs.

I put a layer down and air the room out as I know its not good for us let alone a small animal x

I'd say anything over Sawdust. Really one of the worst beddings for guinea pigs.

Fleece, shredded paper, vetbed and some other things would be better choices.

ok so other than fleece what are the choices with are healthy for guinea pigs ?

thanks for the links jerrybelly they were help full x

I personally cannot stand fleece or vetbed its too much work, ruins the washer, costs more in lec/washing liquid than bedding so I steer clear unless I'm using makeshift baseless cages the daily effort of brushing it down to keep it nice and to stop the piggies feet being covered in smooshed poop is too much around 16 hour work days for me, nevermind fitting in teh wash loads so if you work long hours it is something to consider many people do use it succesfully but I imagine people working less hours or part time may find it less of a challenge to keep on top of. I love fitch and finacard, high quality shavings are alright too these last a full week with the depth I put in. and it takes 20 minutes once a week to clean the cage vs 20+ minutes a day plus shaking/brushing/washing it to get it clean :-)

I do use fleece for litter trained bunnies and for them it does work really well though.

My lovely guinea pigs seem very happy on a bed of newspaper with hay. They need cleaning out uite often but love to snuggle down in to the hay and look very sweet resting their little cheeks on the side of the hay 'dips' that they make xx

Edit to add that they are indoor piggies and have two large litter trays that they use as beds/loos/larders.

My favourites are Auboise made from the hemp plant & currently trying Raviera which is made from oil seed rape straw. It's a lot cheaper than Auboise and after 2 weeks I'm liking it. Here's a link:-

I put a 10 to 15mm layer in my guinea pigs runs on top of a layer of newspapers & it's OK for a week between changes. I bag will do about 5 weeks in 2 c&c 6x2 runs so @ £7.49 a 20kg bag it's cheap. If you're into saving the earth it's also fully compostable.

so most of you use hay and newspaper and others use fleece and 1 uses sawdust newspaper hay and piggyfan and helen use vet bed ! x
