Hi!
Are you able to help, I have been contacted by someone researching guinea pig fleece pee pads/cage liners/ lap pads.
They are trying to judge what would be the best composition/ most popular, when looking at making or purchasing a fleece pee pad.

I guess the main questions currently are….
What are your fleece pee pads made off?
i.e wadding/zorb/ waterproof layer/other

Do you look for best price, and happy with wadding or prefer to pay more ie for a zorb middle?

Is waterproof backing important for you?

If you use wadding fleece pads, what do you use underneath them to absorb the wet patches?

I have already shared my opinions- but I make my own liners with zorb middles, it would be great to be able to pass on some other opinions.

Thank you. 🌻

I didn't get on with Zorb when I used it in some pee pads to try it out, too heavy and took longer to dry. Shrank more than the fleece and distorted shape of pad despite being pre washed twice.
I make my own pads using quilted mattress protectors as the middle layer.
I buy the middle price range mattress protectors as I find the cheap ones wash flat very quickly.
I don't like waterproof, the point of fleece liners and pee pads is that the wet soaks through. I found the waterproof ones I made got very wet on top as once the pad was wet the urine couldn't go anywhere else but back to the top.
I don't put anything underneath as I find now I'm using better quality wadding the urine doesn't go through, pee pads under hidies and in favourite urine places and changing them every other day stops the main liner getting wet.

I use zorb as the middle layer and fleece for upper and lower. I tried towels as a middle layer once and didn’t get on with it - found it barely lasted a day before it was too damp to leave in the cage

I like using wadding for tunnels or fluffier beds and find they last a few days before needing a wash. I don’t use them for pee pads because they need changing too often and I like how the zorb lasts longer for managing my fatigue - but it does cost a fair bit more. If you’re happy to change the pads every couple of days then I think they’d work fine. I use zorb pee pads or vet bed on the bottom of the wadding beds if the piggies favour them

I’ve also heard mattress protectors work well for the middle layer but I’ve never tried that myself
