A while ago I came across little fleece jackets / pouches with a velcro closure that you could pop your pig in to give them their meds. I didn't get one at the time mallethead & now I have 2 pigs with the snuffles who need a course of Baytril. They are both very cross about the Baytril :( & getting a bit stressed. I have tried wrapping the boys in a towel but their feet seem to escape!

Does anybody know where I can find these pouches so I can stop them struggling? I have been searching all over the internet but can't find them or remember what they are called!

Thank you :)

I haven't seen them, sorry! I also struggle to get meds into my pigs using the towel-wrap method, but have a lot better luck when I stand them up on their back legs on my lap, with one hand holding them upright with their back against my stomach. Then I can reach the syringe around to their mouth with the other hand because their 'back is against the wall.' It seems to be faster, and eliminates the piggie struggling before you even get the meds near them because they are freaked about having their legs pinned in the towel. Maybe you could try that if you don't find the product you're looking for. Good luck- giving meds is hard, and they all seem to hate Baytril! I just finished dosing mine with the same stuff ten minutes ago! :(

Oh I could also do with one of those! What a great idea, my giddy is getting wise to all my tricks to get Baytrill into him! I hope your pigs are feeling better soon

My pigs used to go mental when I tried to give them their meds, the best method I found for doing it was sitting them on my chest and cupping their bum with my hand and kinda hiding them under my head if that makes sense (by putting my chin over them - making myself sound like I have an almighty chin). Not sure why but they love this and feel really cosy, they always go to sleep like that but won't otherwise. When I did that I got somebody to help me give them their meds - they wouldn't fight it at all if they were getting snuggles.

Hope you manage to find these things though, never heard of them before admittedly.

Thanks everybody for the advice & the link :) will let you know how I get on...

I mixed my baytril with fruit juice and alwasy finished up with half a syringe of plain juice to wash out the nasty taste.. sometimes I dripped it down the length of a long dandelion leaf before rolling it up into a cigar so piggy ate a tube of medicated dandelion. After a while she would accept her meds from the syringe without being touched at all and really enjoyed anything that came out of the syringe! Took about 2 months though before she got the message!

You did well to get to this stage with your piggie & syringe medication :)

I have been mixing in a bit of ribena cordial with the Baytril & this seems to improve things a little, but not enough to prevent it all being a bit stressy for my silly old pigs. They are quite happy to take Bio-Lapis direct from the syringe through the cage bars as it must taste really yummy so that's one helpful thing at least... They never mind Metacam either if they have to have it, I think Baytril must just be particularly bad tasting :(

Wow these are a really good idea!

I could do with a Pomeranian Puppy sized one lol as am currently using an old dressing gown to wrap him up in to medicate a scratch next to his eye. He is very wriggly!

Might just have to invest in one of these for my First Aid Box. Baytril does taste vile - I tried it once to see..... :)>>>

Why they can't make it taste nicer I don't know! If you think getting it into a Guinea Pig is hard - you should try getting into a rat or a Syrian Hamster lol.
