I've seen lots about people using fleece as a lining on the bottom of their cages. Surely though the piggies just pee all over it & it's damp in minutes? How can it be used sucessfully as it looks really cosy & I am sure mine would like it!

I've used vetbed in mine and they do pee and poop on it but the pee goes through to the newspaper underneath and you can hoover/remove the poops. It is very nice, however, I'm stopping using it as I can't cope with all the washing of it, so before you use it you'd have to make sure you have the time to wash it every 3 days or so.

edit have decided to keep using it for my longhaired girls as the shavings stick to them. They don't make such a mess as the boars so hopefully I'll be able to cope with it. It is nice for them and I felt too guilty with them on shavings!

I use fleece for my piggies, and it does take a lot to maintain the washing, however I have three fleeces I wash in rotation so there is always a clean one to change the cage with :) I think it is nice and soft on their little feet, though hay sticks to it like nothing else ::)

Polyester fleece (it has to be washed a few times first) is probably one of the driest beddings you can get. It actually "wicks" the pee away from the surface onto whatever you put underneath - usually newspapers. It isn't like towels - pee or water do not soak into the fabric. I change it twice a week and sweep the poops off daily. I also have a litter tray with megazorb in it underneath their hay rack so that they tend to pee while they munch. Works better than anything I've used before but I'm sure it would be tricky on a larger scale. I have 4 pigs in a C&C cage.

We got some nice pink fleeces for our rabbit and Tiger the piggie. Bunny likes to sleep outside the bedroom keeping an eye on the garden so we put his snugglepad between 2 fleeces and he sprawls out like a lord :)

Tiger has one in the bedroom with a snugglepad in it and lots of hay to hide under - although i found him snuggled up with Bunny in his fleece this morning!

We washed them in the machine this weekend (the fleeces not the pets!) and they came out a treat, dried really quickly too.

Thanks everyone, I am really tempted to give it a go, it's just the thought of the washing that puts me off, though having said that I do so much that one more thing won't notice much ;D

How do you keep it still in the cage, I've discovered this week that Molly & Blossom will not pee upstairs at all (so far) so am wondering about fleecing their upper level for them & seeing how that goes before I decide about the lower level (they currently have hay on the lower level). I'm concerned it's going to slide about all over the place though.

Wish I'd thought about this when I was in Ikea last week as they have cheap fleeces!

i have some dog blankets that are like fleece so I'm thinking of using them maybe all cut up ;)

The £2.59 ones? they're excellent, I got two, one for the dog and one for my son :)

Yep, that's the ones, I even deliberately went over & looked at tehm & then thought no, now wish I'd got them ::)

Oh well, they have a couple of new bits for the cage arriving soon so I'll pop those in & then think again about the fleece!
