Hey so I made my fleece cage liner, fleece with a bathroom towel and then another fleece for the bottom. I had washed the fleece 3 times and then sewed the towels in.
I had it all ready today to put in a clean cage ready for when my girls arrive and i thought i would test the wicking of the fleece... I tipped a little bit of water on it, and it just rolls around on the fleece! Does this mean it is not wicking?
I washed it with normal detergent but i had my boyfriend read the label (as i still can't read much swedish) and he said it didn't have any extra softener in it. I will put it through for another couple of washes this week as much as i can, but what am i looking for with the water test - does it soak through easily? Thanks.

It depends what fleece, polar fleece is best, some other fleece's don't absorb as well

maybe after a few more washes it may be ok ? But I would suggest looking into a more high quality polar fleece and it will be much better for keeping your piggies dry and it will last alot longer so although it may cost more to start it will save you in the long run

yeah its just i am on such a tight budget...
I will try washing it again with vinegar this time, i read that is supposed to help break it down. i hope it works

Fleece has a right side and a wrong side, if you have it upsidedown it won't wick, it could be that's your problem.

Yeah, it's hard to tell, the right side is sort of smoother and a slightly different texture. If you've cut the fleece if you stretch the edge it curls to the right side.

Oh damn.. i don't think i can get it un-stitched to have a look, i made my cage liner with a sewing machine. Hmmm... i have a couple more coming of the same type i can see if those have any different sides before i rip this one apart haha
i do have some proper "polar anti pill fleece" coming too, smaller sized to make extra soaker pads... i guess if i can put those two in the cage if i find out where they might wee (alhough i hope it will be in their kitchen area) and put those in, then the crappy cheap fleece isn't relied on too much.

I got another cheap fleece through, the tag doesn't say much apart from 100% polyester. And i really cannot seem to find a top side, they seem the same.
