I'm sure there have been many topics on fleece, but I've just been thinking and I was wondering what the pros and cons would be for fleece (over the litter that I currently use)
Or any recommendations on brands/types. As I'm sure Smokey and Bacon would like to have fleece, as they love beds and blankets, and enjoy having a cosy place to lay down in.
Thanks x

@Piper&Kierstein I've got a very small cage (with a run attached of course) so I'm thinking it would be the only bit I would cover, so it shouldn't cost much as its only a Ferplast cage, would it?

So, I've used about every type of bedding out there. Starting from wood shavings and working my way up. The problem with wood shavings was the messy clean up from kicking wood chips out on my floor 😑 but the pros are they mine liked to nibble on them at least the one that weren't peed on. To me those were harder to clean because I had to practically dump the whole thing out and start from scratch. I tried the easy care paper bedding and that smelled horrible after just a few days so that's definitely a con there wasn't much I can positive about paper bedding. Fleece bedding is my ultimate favorite. It allows me to clean the cage every night while they are still in it without having to disturb them. I do so with a small pan and brush. Then every Thursday or Friday they get a deep clean. It's easy with the fleece because I roll the fleece up and take it outside with all the poops in it. Then I dump that in the washer with no fragrance or dyes detergent with a cup of vinegar and then I take my dust pan and brush brush up the poops and use a deodorizerizing spray for the bottom and lay new fleece on top. All done :)

Vet fleece is good. And it's a decent price on amazon and they have different sizes

I also have used many different types of bedding and have stuck with fleece bedding the longest.
They all have pros and cons, but I like the fleece bedding the best. Cleaning is a breeze as you can visually see the soil on the fabric so you know you need to change. My Finn and Lara use their hay trays as their bathrooms so there is minimal pee on the fleece, which makes cleaning super easy. I change their hay tray bathroom very often, which minimizes the odor.

I hand wash my fleece bedding and that is how I know there is very minimal pee on the fleece, visually, so truly mine do their bathroom needs on the hay tray. I soak the fleece bedding in vinegar to kill bacteria for health reasons.

A few more questions
What do you recommend for an absorbent layer?
Would you cover the floor area too?
What sizes do you get?
What brands do you recommend?

How often do you change it? Is it just when it gets dirty?

I use puddy pads.

I've a big 185cm cage.

Them blankets are really soft my piggys love laying down on them

That's why I think Smokey and Bacon would love them

That's my girl laying down on it.

We have wood shavings down there feeding end as they pee and poop alot down there and it's easier to clean

I had mine made b

It is quite easy with fleece, especially when my piggies use their hay trays as their bathrooms.
Keep in mind though my Finn and Lara live in separate cages for obvious reasons, but I still do keep them very clean for health reasons. I believe that good veggies and clean living space keep the exotic vet away.

I change fleece bedding roughly every week. Even when I do change every week, there is very minimal amount of pee on the fleece and when I hand wash them, I can see very small amount of pee the fleece bedding. I soak them in vinegar water to kill the bacteria.

If it only needs cleaned once a week I should only need two

Sure, start with two.

I have 6 total, 3 for each piggies as Finn and Lara have separate cages. I also have around 10 fleece pee pads, which can be used as fleece beddings.
To be honest, I usually go overboard when it comes to buying stuff for my pets. I have 2 guinea pigs and 6 hamsters, so I do go through a lot of everything. I love shopping in general, XD

I just use puppy pads, I do have fleece but Almond thinks they are the best thing ever to eat, so my lovely cage liners were ruined fairly swiftly.

I put a layer of around eight in the cage, I then remove a layer each day, the one underneath isn’t soiled.

So there's talk about a new cage, and said cage being wooden, and I don't think putting litter on wood would be a good idea (because of the pee and the smell) so the change to fleece is ecoming more likely, once the cage is built, as it's going to be made by me, and not bought

This is true, wooden cage and Carefree bedding won't go together.
Have you considered putting some linoleum on top of the wooden cage and you can still get fleece lining on top?
I hear many people talk about linoleum on this site to protect the cage.

Wow that's a lot, how many piggies were kept on it?

Sounds like a great idea. Today is my first try with puppy pads. No bad smells at all, and no dust either, so I'm really happy about that. However, I do have one problem.. they keep hiding under it... :D they look so cute but they create a mess. How can I keep the puppy pads in place. I fear using tape as they might chew on it. Any suggestions I'd appreciate .. :D thanks ! :)

I'm about to change over to a wooden cage and was going to put a vinyl flooring in it and a thick layer of Fitch or Carefresh on top of that.(I didn't really want to go down the fleece route.)Would that work ?

Aubiose Pet Bedding would work too.

I see someone on YouTube using it and she has a wooden cage

I saw some great fleece liners for ferplast cages for sale on ebay yesterday when I was browsing for a new c&c fleece... a company called ATALAS had lots? just type "guinea pig fleece cage liner" into ebay... they had lots of nice designs, for under £20 for the size you need!
