Hi all

I have read a few topics and people have said that they use fleece as bedding. Do you mean fleece as in the fleece that you can buy off the market for like £3 a metre? Or does it have to be some kind of special fleece?

What about washing it? Do you just shake off any nasty bits and throw it in the washer?

How is the best way to use it? Put newspaper down then cover with said fleece?

Sorry if I sound really retarded but I am just confused by it ?

Not special stuff just fleece blankets etc. I brush the poop & hay off and then put in a pillowcase in the washing machine - comes up nice.

I opted for fleece because my little boar seemed allergic to the woodshavings and kept sneezing.

Good luck! O0

There are a variety of fleeces you can use from fleece blankets to special Pet Rugs that are basically cutable fleece rugs. They work great b/c you can quickly identify poop and pee soaks right through. Usually you need to put something underneath to soak up the pee (towels, newspaper, bedding, etc) I find a mix works best. I use newspapers with a little bedding covered with some papertowel/newspaper to prevent the bedding from sticking to the fleece, or if you do a lot of laundry you can just use fleece and newspaper but you will need to change it more often in that case. It is really the best for pigs b/c they don't have to breathe any dust at all.

i use fleece from the material suppliers.i put news paper under to soak up any wee and this seems to work well

When your pigs are on a fleece how often does it ave ta be washed ? ? ?

I was using fleece blankets over towels, but found they were getting wet within a day or so, so you have to wash them once or even twice a week - so I have brought profleece which is like vetbed but it's only in the girls and one of the boys cages at the moment and i have to say - touch wood, it's been completely dry since Saturday night :-) it's brill!

There are products like vetbed and pro-fleece that are great for piggys I use pro-fleece for mine, its really cheap and you can cut it to any size without fraying, it machine washes and even tumble dries, my piggys love it! I got mine off ebay although most pet shops sell it, vetbed is very similar to pro-fleece but more expensive so don't get ripped off!

is profleece as absorbant as vet bed as we are having trouble washing it in our washer to be honest.

I personally prefer profleece over vetbed, I wash it and tumble dry it twice a week and it still looks the same as when I bought it, I found vetbed looked scruffy and didn't tumble dry.

Just had a look at profleece on ebay. It looks good! Only problem for me is the latex backing it says it has. I am highly allergic to latex and when I come into contact with it, the result is never good :embarassed:

I use profleece for bedding and wash it weekly or twice weekly depending on how much mess they make, the good thing is it never feels wet as the moisture is soaked up and stays at the bottom layer meaning your piggys won't get wet and cold. x

i use fleece fabric with towels and newspaper underneath and i change it two or three times a week. just bought cheap and cheerful ::) fleece's from a bargain textile shop. the pigs love it and so do i :smitten: have included pics so you can see what i mean.

I use fleece blankets it is ideal if you have a number of pigs and want to keep the budget down. Only downfall is that it is more work with cleaning out more often and also you need to clean your machine. I hoover mine out and dettol it everytime. :)

I found I needed to completely change mine every other day, even with a thick layer of newspapers, three or four layers of towel then three layers of fleece. Cost lots to be constantly be washing and tumbledrying (I live in a flat, so only get to use airers other than dryer.) x

I'm planning on building C&C cage for my piggies soon and also think about changing bedding to fleece. May someone please tell me where can I get some good quality fleece for a reasonable price? Other than IKEA as we don't have that in Aberdeen.
