Hi everyone

I've just put fleece in my GP cage for the first time but I'm not sure I'm keen. They look confused too. What are the pros and cons of fleece? It just looks more unhygienic to me :/

How often do I change it all? I have a towel underneath and newspaper under that.

Thanks.

It will take them time to get used to it.

I change the newspaper daily and shake the poos off a couple of times a day.

The fleece and towels get changed every 3 days

I think fleece is better for their respiratory systems as it doesn't have the dust that woodshavings have. It also keeps nice and dry so their floor is always warm for them to lie on.

How big is your cage? I can only imagine fleece seeming unhygenic if in a pet store cage or the likes.

120cm lOng.

I find it far easier to keep clean then sawdust

I change every 2-3 days; the advantage is that any pees wick through. Poos get picked up twice daily. It is much more hygienic than wood chippings and the piggies end up with less mats and messes in their coats. give yourself and your piggies time to get used to! A couple of my Tribe still prefer to live mainly in the hay corners - especially the older ones who used to live in hutches before they came into rescue.

i bought proper cage liners from cosy cavies, it's fleece, then an absorbant layer, then a waterproof layer underneath. i wash it about twice a week, i find it so much easier than sawdust, and the cage is in the living room and they used to kick bits of sawdust everywhere, the only problem i find now with fleece is bob maulting so it's forever covered in white hairs! haha! x

Recently I clean my cage once a day now. He seems to be drinking more water due to the warmer weather upon us.My piggie is in a rabbit cage. So it's a lot smaller that a hutch or anything. I use one blanket and a fleece. Charlie seems to love it. I love seeing him "chill out" outside of his pigloo. Makes me happy. I can tell when he needs a cleaning. As if it's dirty and wet he tends to hide in his pigloo. As soon as his cage is clean he is all sprawled out. Too cute!
