So today I was in poundland and I came across loads of different colours of polyester of pet fleece, puppy training pads and hand towels. I thought 'ah what the heck' and decided to give using fleece a go!
I have been busy nearly all afternoon (firstly furiously washing the fleeces) then making fitted cage liners, hammocks, pillows, a fleece jungle and piggy sleeping bags.
I changed out Gertie's cage and installed her lovely new fleece home.
Now I know lots of people have said that their piggies like living on fleece and enjoy having the colours in their cages changed etc but I really wasn't expecting over half an hour of popcorning! rolleyes

Gert is currently flopped out under her hammock on her new fluffy pillow (she never used to flop out before!) and every time she comes out to investigate she starts popcorning again! Poor love must be exhausted! (Do guinea pigs choose when to pop corn or is it an automaic behaviour - like a cat purring?)

Do any of you guys use fleece in your cages and if so what tips do you have for a first-time fleece user?

Aww how lovely to hear your little one is so happy. My tip is to collect poops three times a day and to wash and change the fleece and towels every three days.

Haha oh bless them! Yes they do love the fleece! They'll probaby do that everytime you clean them :(|)

My tip with fleece is to make sure you've washed it 3 times without fabric softener before you use it so it wicks properly. You may find you need to change it every other day until it's had a few washes so it wicks fully. (don't use fabric softener on your towels either)

I think popcorning is when they are so happy they can't control themselves! :(|)
My piggies love their fresh fleece as well. George wheeks and popcorns while he inspects every inch of it. :(|)

I've just re-read your post, you made cage liners, hammocks, pillows, a fleece jungle and piggy sleeping bags in one afternoon?! Wow, that is impressive, it takes me ages to make one sleeping bag. We need photos! They sound brilliant.

Thanks everyone for your advice, and thanks katiepops for your kind words! :(|)
I have washed the fleeces 3 times before making anything as i wanted to check it wouldn't shrink too much. I think I will change the fleece every 2 days as you suggest until i'm sure that everything is absorbing as it should be!

I will try and post some pics HERE tomorrow when Gertie decides she has enough of rolling around in her sleeping bag. rolleyes

I'm not a brilliant sewer but i'm pretty good at guessing sizes etc and throwing fabric through the sewing machine. It's never perfect but it doesn't take me too long to get everything done - which leaves more time for piggy snuggles :(|).

Ahhhhhh how sweet certainly very lucky (and spoilt) piggies ^)

Here we go, pics as promised! Please excuse the poops (reaches for the poop scooper).

I haven't quite got the sizing of the cage liner right - it's a little bit loose in the corners and tends to pull up. Have made another one today and I think i've got it the right size this time - fingers crossed :))

I can hide out under my hammock!

My sleeping bag - I love hiding in here!

Here's my kitchen, but I think I need some floor pads and maybe a corner litter tray for under my hay basket!

And this is just me because i'm so sweet and small and fluffy!
