Do the people on here who use fleese or vetbed in there cages and hay only in a rack do there pigs not get mites cus i use newspaper and hay and have recently bought some easibed and i constantly get mites with mine just wondered x
 
i use hay and newspaper and medibed and have never had mites, i guess it depends on the hay O0 i get mine from a local farmer, £3 a bale! :)
 
;D ;D ;D ;D it's a really good price! there are advantages of living in a fairly rural area! ;D :)
 
i'm not sure what easibed is :-\ medibed, is basically chopped hay, but it's got a sort of disinfectant on it, perfectly safe for piggies, even if eaten and it's good O0 it's a horse bedding, and is dust free ;)
 
My hubby works on a farm but I choose to buy my hay at the pet store, you never know what's been running around through the hay, mice, rats etc. I worry about what the piggies could catch off it.
 
apparently horse quality hay is meant to be ok, but I worry about farm hay as well :-\
 
I always check it, there's never anything bad in it, it's always really dry and sooo fresh and sweet smelling, i'm sure it's got to be fresher. Mine have all been fine, and i've been using it for months, they love it! i do buy special hays for eating and treats O0

Right thats it no more tales of whats been found in hay ;D ;D I'm gonna be scared sorting through the hay bale. ;D We get a bale from the local garden centre £3-75. Great quality. *Touches wood* no mites :)
 
all i keep finding in the hay is bits that seem to stabb my finger and make it bleed!

thankfully nothing else! and the boys like it...as long as their happy i shall continue with the hay which stabs me! xx0
 
Hay caused an abscess on both Duke and Sully :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: that's the trouble when it's dry it's so dam sharp :o :o :o :o
 
mine's not that sharp and i remove anything like thistles, but i think i've only found 1 once O0
 
my boys will fly through the rest of the bag they love it so much.

then i'll get something with less sharp things in it!

Fleece blankets used as bedding in place of woodshavings or whatever.

Hope you're not offended - I wasn't laughing at the question (I like people asking questions - that's how we all learn) it was the way you put it!

Anyway, I use fleece blankets now as my little boar kept sneezing and a process of elimination proved it to be the woodshavings I was using. I find the fleece much more manageable, easier and quicker to clean out the cage, and no more sneezing! O0 :smitten:
 
Yeah, my little Isaac sneezes a lot, but I dont even use woodshavings anymore. They're on hay and newspaper.
I think I'm going to go to the store and get me some fleece blankies today :)
