My guinea pig tried to go up a ramp, but apparently the ramp was too high for her. She kinda flipped over after she tried getting up the ramp unsuccessfully. I feel so guilty, will she be okay? She acting normal, she’s not limping or anything.

How high was the ramp, and what did she land on? If she fell less than about 1ft and landed on something soft and isnt limping hopefully she is ok, keep an eye on her just in case as piggies tend to hide their injuries and can occasionally land badly and hurt a leg or their back... but if it was just a small fall within the cage she may be fine. Maybe you could add sides to the ramp, or some carpet for extra grip, or make it less steep for her? If you are worried at all, always see a vet, but if she is behaving and moving normally I would just keep checking on her this evening and again in the morning.

Great advice from Pigglepuggle - I have fitted a side to my piggies ramp as they do run up and down quite fast - carpet with double sided tape is an easy option too. Perhaps add an extra ‘step’ to make the ramp less steep ?

She landed on bedding, and it was definitely less than 1 foot, do you think her back might be injured?

is she usually sturdy? My guinea pig somehow managed to jump off the back of a chair that was higher than a foot, but hes perfectly fine.

Its impossible to say what the outcome of a fall will be, guinea pigs do have delicate spines that are not very flexible, and also they are very heavy for their size- falls can snap a leg or damage the spine but can also be ok, just like a human person stumbling on the stairs, the outcome could be anything from no injuries at all to a freak bad landing that causes broken bones- all down to luck!
Hopefully your piggy is fine, a back injury would usually show as some sort of rear end paralysis or symptoms of pain like being hunched up and not wanting to move much... any signs of pain call the vet, but if she is running about and eating fine today still she is most likely uninjured!

I am thinking about getting a better ramp, after all, the ramp in the cage is for rabbits! I just feel so guilty that we never made it safer or got a guinea pig ramp.
