Hi, how does everyone control where piggies do their business when they have floor time? Also, one of my pigs eats just ate his poo as he was wandering around; may seem gross but in desperate need to stop this!

Piggies produce 2 types of poop. The regular waste plus another version which they re-digest to get nutrients not absorbed the first time. So, quite normal to see a piggy eating a poop. I did not know about this myself when I first got a piggy so was really concerned when I saw it but a troll through the Internet re-assured me this is necessary for piggy health.

As for actual toilet training I failed training mine although some people do manage. I think it very much depends on piggy. For floor time I confine my piggies on fleece in a playpen on my wood floors or in the bathroom with towels on the tile floor. Then its just a shake & wash.

Hopefully other members will be able to tell you how they toilet trained their piggies so you can try with yours.

Thanks so much for the info, weird but interesting!

I found when I got my first 2 piggies that they both liked to wee and poo and sleep in a certain corner of their run. So I bought a cat litter tray and filled it with hay and but their hay feeder next to it so they could sleep eat and poo in the tray. They did do this but now I can move tray anywhere in cage and they do the same. They are not perfect with poos but definitely cleaner than the other pigs we have acquired since who no matter what just poo and wee everywhere.

Anyway it means everyday there is a sweep with dustpan and brush and a change of their litter tray and they stay quite clean. If I let them run on the floor in the house the poos do travel beyond the box but they do tend to wee in the box (which I place in middle of floor) and then hop back out to carry on playing. Unless they have a certain toy like their tunnel and then they just sit and wee in that :)

And like Lilly said with the 2 poos thing its totally normal, mine do it too (but they do tend to be discreet) in fact piggies have even been known to share this poo that they eat with other ill members of their herd if they cant produce it as it is very good and healthy for them. :)

When it's floor time mine poop and pee on the lap pads but sometimes they do have a accidents near doors and corners.

mine are a mixture I have two litter trained girls and the other 6 please themselves, I think it is down to their personalities. My new boy Rupert poos in a pile so gonna litter train him. I may even consider bonding him with my litter trained girlies, that's after I've tried him with my single skinny boy (he would be neutered first before getting near the girls)

My 2 freerange in the lounge - when they first started to do that I expected to have puddles to clean up (and a stinky carpet), they have constant access to their hutch. They really only like to pee in hideys so they either go back to the hutch or pee in the hideys I have placed around the lounge. One hidey (cardboard box) is lined with puppy pads, second hidey (paper bag) is sat on top of newspapers and puppy pads, third hidey (under big cozy leather chair) also has newspapers and puppy pads. I have been able to work out where they like to go and put carpet protection in place. We haven't had accidents anywhere else other than the odd poo that pops out mid popcorn - you cant be cross at that - it's too funny!

Mine just pee on the floor lol thankfully I have laminate/lino throughout the entire house!

For mine I have them in a c&c on the floor so we just open one of the grids to let them out. we put down fleece on the floor and put a cat litter box full of hay with a big cardboard box on top with three flaps. This is the most private place for them to do their business so they usually all run off there or back to the cage to do their business. There is the odd accident though but we have wood floor so easily cleaned.

Hi thanks for replies, am doing nothing today so will have plenty of time to hopefully try out all your ideas! :)
Thanks so much.
