Yes, my piggies want to go back to their cages after a very short time out. They love their familiar home. However if you have about four piggies, I think the feeling of safety in numbers can make them more confident. They also like tunnels they can run through as they feel safer under cover
I've only had three who liked floor time out of all the piggies I've had over the years. The piggies I have now don't like it at all and just hide so I no longer give them floor time. My cages are large so they have plenty of room in their cages for zoomies and popcorning. Except one pair who are still establishing their hierarchy I change cage layouts and furniture regularly to keep them interested in exploring.
Some of mine make straight beeline to their (blocked) cage entrance and cannot wait until I am finished with cleaning while others love exploring. Piggies are above all, individualists. You always get the whole spectrum from one end to the other.
Sprinkle treats around to encourage them or call them over for a (please healthy) treat from you from different points. If needed peg a sheet over the area or part of the area to give them more protection at first.
