floor time?

I was just wondering what you guys put down for floor time to protect the floor from poops and wee's? I was thinking maybe something thats easy to wash down - a shower curtain maybe? Give me some ideas please!
 
I've got a car boot liner I bought from Focus. I put a fleece on top and it catches all the wee.
 
our piggies seem to have a strange idea that they cannot wee anywhere but their cage, so as soon as they need to they will get fussy and we know it is to get back in their cage (this happened once with our patches and before we could move he had done his houdini trick over the playpen and into his cage)but alltogether we have not had too much of a problem as the poo is quite easy to clean up, but looking forward to seeing what people put down on their floor.

I have tiles and laminate so just use a fleece and antibacterial wipes when the fleece is up.

Easy....

Maybe I should try that on my floor, teach the landlord a lesson for putting down ill-fitting pine floorboards :))
 
I got door mat things from Dunelm which are made from carpet. I then put towels and fleece on top.
 
I have a carpets so I really need something that I can just wipe down after the piggys have used it. I'm not Kean on using fleece and towels purely because it just adds to the wash load! The room next the living room is where I'm planning on keeping the cage - its basically a second living room fully carpeted. They'd have the run of that, as we dont really use it much apart from storing some of the kids toys. Id love them to just be able to run over the carpet but as this is a rented place and just couldnt risk it.

edited to add: ill be using fleece and towels for the cage so i really wouldnt want to use them for floor time aswell
 
I'm lucky that our kitchen is stone flooring. We set the piggies run up in there and any wee can easily be mopped up or wiped up with anti bacterial floor wipes. I used to just put newspaper on the carpet but the wee still seeped through. Like you, we live in a rented house so have to be careful. Having said that, we pay a deposit for having our cat so I suppose if the piggies do cause any damage, we'll just blame the cat :x
 
LMAO! Poor kitty! Well the kitchen floor is laminate so I suppose I could let the piggers run in there - I was just worried they'd try and get behind the fridge or something lol x

Thats brillient, where did you get that pen from and how much was it? I might have a browse on ebay and see what I can find.....
 
A while back Tesco were selling them for £4 each on offer. I think they have stopped selling them now though. That one in the pic is 2 joined together. They sell them on ebay and pets and home but they aren't cheap. £13.99 for one http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-hamster+play+pen they do sell similar things though

Claire, we have the same one, but I have to watch them closely because if they decide they've had enough floor time and want to get back in their cages, they have a tendency to go AWOL and I spend the next half hour fishing them out from under the bookshelf!

Mine roam the living room during the day, as I work form home. They have access to their cages via a ramp and can come and go.

They also have various corners where I have put down some nobbly kitchen cupboard liner from Ikea (no sliding covers like on a smooth sheet) and then covered it with old bath towels and bathroom mats. All their hides are on the plastic, so I can just wash the fabrics and wipe the plastic underneath.

Taffy and Tegan have caught on within about two weeks and are turning themselves in in the evening together with the others. If I need my piggies to come back during the day, I simply serve a little treat (like some grass) in the cage and close the door behind my greedy guts!

I wouldn't recommend it in rented accommodation, though!
 
Do they tend to pee alot when on floor time? How often would you say a guinea pig pee's? Lol x Also when you hold your piggys on your lap do you put them on a towel? Or do you find your piggys dont do the dirty deed when on your lap?
 
It all depends on my piggies. Sometimes when they're out they will wee loads as if to say, 'ooh, lets wee here so we don't have to dirty our hutch'. When I have them on my lap, I tend to sit with a towel over me as Eliza especially has a tendency to chew and I'd rather her chew the towel rather than my clothes! They are generally quite good at lap time and very rarely wee on me unless I ignore the warning signs :))

Eliza has been known to escape out of mine as well rolleyes That is such a cute photo x
 
i buy one or two of those front door carpet mats (they are just plush carpet like a hall runner)and place the puppy pen around it,they are cheap to buy and very soft on piggies feet,i steam clean them every now and them to get any wee stains out x
 
Wiebke surely you dont put something down over the whole of your living room floor? Just in the corners? dont they pee on the rest of the floor? i might just have to find a huge waterproof sheet thing and hold it down in the corners with bricks or something....
