My question is, what's the best kind of flooring to go under an outdoor guinea pig run?

I know ideally it would grass but that's not an option. The hutch and run are in a nice sheltered spot in the garden but the grass underneath it is all but gone. Just earth there now.

Are bark chips safe? Or artificial grass? Or should I just put some hay down and change it in a regular basis? I've read so much conflicting advice.

Our piggies are inside for winter at the moment but hoping to put them back outside once the weather warms up!

Thank you!

I would recommend hay, as that is what they mainly eat. Some piggies are plastic junkies and love pulling out astro turf.

If grass is not growing well, you could consider growing it in trays that you seed at 2 weeks intervals so you can rotate them in and out, and hopefully regrow them. Cut and come lettuce in trays is also an option.

i have some bare patches on my lawn,i place puppypads down, fleece over the top.i use a large pile of hay and some toystunnels and hides.change the pads every two days.I'm hoping to get the lawn returfed this year !
