In the past 2 weeks, a beloved member of the forum, @Flutterby has lost 12/16 of her piggies to what is believed to be viral pneumonia. I thought I would start a thread to support her, her family, and their piggies in this hard time.

Ruth, my heart goes out to you. I'm so terribly sorry for all your losses. I was genuinely shocked when I saw your thread. I want you to read this poem, it comforted me when I lost my Peanut in December 2016 to pneumonia.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together, never to be separated again

RIP piggies. HUGE hugs to you, family, and piggies.:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

My babies, those I have lost are: Romeo, Fleur, Matilda, Olive, Sabrina, Delores, Pandora, Claudia, Bridget, Betsy, Juliet and Lottie.

I'm so down today, can't work up the motivation to do anything when I've got so much to do. I want to spend the whole day with my remaining four babies sat on the sofa. I'm so worried for them. :(

Just sit on the sofa with your 4. At the moment if that's what can give you comfort and some strength to go on? Every moment spent with them will be ultimately precious due your dreadful losses. x

The Tribe are sending you piggy kisses and I am sending you BIG HUGS!
Respiratory viruses are thankfully very rare in guinea pigs, but if they do get into a population, they are devastating. I am ever so sorry that they have got into your well cared for and loved group, but glad that you have at least got the answers you have been looking for and that you know that it is not something that is your fault or that you could have prevented! :(

Sorry, been too busy baking all week for the TEAS event yesterday to keep up with things, but I am looking forward to seeing you in Birmingham!

The only thing I can say is that it's too heartbreaking ... I read it the other day and o just couldn't bring myself to write anything .
My ex just lost 2 dogs in 4 days with viral pneumonia , I still can't even deal with that ....
So sorry ... be strong :(
Oh how terrible - sorry to hear that. :soz:

You are so strong and I wish for the best of you and your beautiful four. I know how much it means to lose a creature dear to you and I can't even stand the idea that so many are gone. After all, leaving my kitties at my brother's house for a night makes me feel sick! They will surely be excitedly waiting at the end of the Rainbow Bridge when the time comes.

Much love and hope,
Mocha

Thank you. I am trying to stay positive for the 4 I have left and the 4 girls waiting to come to their forever home.

Great thread on a terrible subject. I've only briefly met Ruth with others and we passed on small talk. In fact i got emotional when she gave me her time as I spoke about my recent died Pedro. In life we do this and that and make decisions according to how we are who we meet etc. Why was it Ruth I spoke to as others were their and I think and hope they would also let this big daft bloke moan about why me piggie left me. But was you RUTH and you didn't let me down. Two minutes with your tlc calm me. I now remember my Pedro with so much affection. How I wish I could return what you did for me. Your herd so cruelly hit by this. Ruth you will and as ive said before in time get over this. Pls Dig deep and be Strong for all them piggies you have and in time will join you in the amazing world you give our loved piggies. David. xx

I think we all rush to this post every morning just to check how you and your piggies are.
Do I understand there are other lucky piggies waiting for you?

Yes there are 4 girls waiting to come home which I can't bring home yet :( They were supposed to come home the week that we lost our first pigs, but obviously with the situation they are on hold. Thankfully they are safe and well looked after were they are at the moment.

Thank you so much x
