Help please I need advice on a baby fly infestation in my guinea pigs outside cage keeping them inside is way easier as I have discovered we are cleaning the cage out rinsing with boiling hot water and using a guinea pig friendly hutch cleaner bathing them on Saturday and maybe using fly strike I was so worried cause I thought It was fleas

Please make sure the area is well ventilated and hang fly papers on the ceiling of the shed.

Try to clean them out more often during fly season so there is less risk of eggs being laid and hatched.

Is there a reason why you can't move them back indoors?

Hi @hopedaisymay11
I wasn't sure I completely understood your post. Can you use ...(full stops), maybe it's my age! - Old fashioned.

Anyway, when you say outside cage, do you mean you have your pigs in a hutch outside? If so, you can protect your babies. A good clean and you can use a hutch spray too bought from pet shops, however do read the label and ensure your piggies are away from the hutch when you spray. don't put any bedding or food bowls etc. when doing that and leave for the correct amount of time after spraying. You can use fly papers after to please ensure they are very secure. Thereafter you should use a fly guard, it's like a mesh over the whole front of your hutch. I use mine throughout, as it's good for sorts of creepy crawlies (except slugs).

If you mean you have a cage outdoors, then obviously that's not very good at all.

If you are concerned about your piggies have fly strike, you must check your pigs over for any wounds or openings such as anus, if you are concerned them ask a vet to have a full check over.
