Sadly my seven and a half year old Wiggles was diagnosed with this today I’m praying we have caught it early enough to treat. It is a truely hideous thing for anyone who’s sadly had to see their pig suffer in this way but she’s had treatment from the vets and is looking brighter.
My question is I’ve been given oral antibiotics but today at 9am she had an antibiotic injection - when should I start the oral anti biotics should it be tomorrow morning? Sorry if I seem ignorant but I was so upset In the vets I didn’t ask as many questions as I would have liked . Thank you fir any advice ?

It is usually the day after an injection that you start with oral meds. If in doubt, ring an out-of-hours clinic for their advice.

All the best with the recovery! Fly strike is one of the most horrible things that piggies can get. Glad that you have caught it in time.

Depending on what antibiotic and what dosage will depend on when you start it. If in doubt give your vets a call (they should have out of hours service). If not antibiotics are very much safe to give a little earlier especially by different routes (injectable then oral)

Hi all thanks for your lovely responses so far so good and she’s eating . It was a Baytrill injection and I’m going to give her the medicine in the morning I can’t believe what a difference 24 hours has made from where we were this time last night 🤞🙏

Hope she makes a good recovery for you! Poor little thing, fly strike is awful!

All good thanks and as of last check no 🐛 just goes to show how important vigilance is because had I not got her out from her hutch and checked her underneath I would never have known - she was last cleaned out 4 days before the fly strike had taken hold so it was really quick !

So sad my baby passed away on Monday night 😢 she seemed to have turned a corner and was eating and seemed so much better I thought we’d saved her but it wasn’t to be . She was 7 years and 7 months so maybe it was just her time. Sleep well little piggie x

Oh so sorry for your loss she was a great age and was obviously well loved and looked after. The Rainbow Bridge has yet another lovely piggy. Have a hug cos you need one!

So sorry for you loss. She was a grand age which would be due to your love and care.
Look after yourself now as you grieve

Thank you for all your kind messages, can’t stop thinking about her but she is at peace now and reunited with her sister rest in peace beautiful girl 🌈💕
