I have tried to add an update to the main title of the previous thread but its not working so i have started a new one just in case...

Thanks to you lot who replied for the good wishes...

Unfortunately the vet has confirmed Bigbum has Lymphoma...

He has lots of lumps on his body and there is nothing more we can do for him...
His teeth were a bit sharp at the back and he was eating on a slant so he rasped that down and Bigbum just sat there with no fight...

I have started syringe feeding him 5ml of mushed up pellets and water to get his gut to start functioning properly but the vet has said if he doesnt perk up over the weekend we need to start thinking of PTS...:(

I had a little cry and have got a lump in my throat at the moment as he has become my little man...

So perk up thoughts are now needed for him but it aint looking good...

Aww how sad, I have a boar with 3 large lumps on him. He will be pts when he is in pain or the lumps stop him walking, though so far he is fine.

I love the name by the way.

Sending loads of healing vibes this weekend. Hope he pulls through

Thanks Sue

Sorry to hear about your boar too. How old is he? Bigbums 2 i think. I've just given him his 2nd syringe and he was fighting me a bit so hopefully this is doing the job...

I'm so sorry for the diagnosis. Sadly most pigs with lymphoma die within a few months of diagnosis, which is an awful thing to have to know. Fingers crossed for a recovery from his current troubles and I hope he is with you in comfort for some time yet. *Hugs* to you. xx

^^ thank you as well... I am hoping the vet was too quick in his diagnosis and is wrong but hey... i am not holding out much hope...

At the moment he is chomping on some hay...
Bless his little socks...

Although he has just spat out half of his mushed up pellets on me... rolleyes but hey... half went down so thats good enough...

Its a bit weird because since my mum died of cancer i have a problem with people or animals being ill and weirdly it feels like i did when we found out mum was terminal (mind you not to the same extent...)

so sorry to hear this Jane. You are doing your very best for him
sending vibes to you and bigbum
thinking of you all
x

I am so sorry to hear about Bigbums diagnosis :( You are doing your very best for him and thats all that matters. He is having the best care possible. Sending big *hugs* to you and lots of perk up vibes to Bigbum xx

Sending lots of cuddles to your little man. Take care sweetheart xx

How sad, I am so sorry. I bet he is blissfully unaware though and is a happy piggy xx

Bit of an update (thanks guys by the way!)

I have a gut feeling his teeth are actually whats causing him problems.

i have a line that if they stop eating all together and just are going down hill each day and we have covered all bases then its time to let them go...
however Bigbum is not there...

He is still trying to eat and it taking interest in his fave food spinach and hay but is not eating anything hard like celery or pepper. He has started coming out of his house now and it lying in his nest he has made...

He is trying to eat and gets to a point where he has tto use his foot to anchor the leaf and does shake his head occasionally when he is eating but then he will turn his nose up at certain food and sometimes takes a piece of veg and drops it until he finds the right leaf...
Does this sound like teeth problems?:{

He still isnt 100% but i really think his teeth are the problem at the moment. So i am taking him back to the vet on monday to see if he can do a little teeth exploration. It may have to be under general anaesthetic but at the moment there is nowhere else to go...

My vet is a new vet i am using as my old vets had to close so I'm not too sure about him yet but we shall see on monday...

Severe throat infections present the same symptoms as dental problems (drooling, difficulty in eating but showing interest in food). Most vets automatically diagnose dental problems as the symptoms are so similar. I lost a piggy to a severe throat infection but my vet thought it was dental and had put my piggy under to file her teeth. It may not be the throat but please get your vet to check as this can easily be overlooked as my little bob found out all too late. She may well have still been with me today if the vet had made a proper diagnosis. Baytril is apparently no use for throat infections so if it is the throat then ask for another antibiotic.
Good luck from all my four piggies

Ooo thanks for that! WIll take that with me to the vets on monday... When the vets put your piggy under did she have a tooth problem as well or did they find nothing and then she was found to have the throat infection?

My vet said that after looking in Bobs mouth that she had a couple of sharp teeth. There were no signs of ulcers or sores. I was told that Bob would have to be put under to perform this simple procedure. (I know better know and would not allow this again). AFter the proceduro fhe vet said that her teeth appeared ok and that was it, Sent away with no further advice. I felt that I had let my piggie down by not finding out what was wrong with her. My piggy died two days later and I got a PM. The vet said that bob had a severe deep throat infection. I very nearly gave all my piggies to good homes as I was so upset, convinced that i could have done something to help bob specially when I found out that if she had been treated for a throat infection she would probably still be with e now.
Needless to say I didnt give my babies away and am currently Mummy to 4 piggies but sadly lost bobs sister a few weeks ago. I'm glad they are reuninted at Rainbow Bridge.

Good luck at the vets. Your piggy may not have a throat infection but as Peter Gurney says on his site, always check the throat if dental symptons present.
