My guinea pig, Umi, is 7 months old. I have heard that you are suppose to feed them 1/8 a cup of food a day, but Umi eats much more. How much should i feed him at 7 months? How much when he is older?

Thanks!

1/8 of a cup! best be bloody giant ones lol
No idea what amount they should be eating but I have a bigish bowl and just fill it up with loads of different veg and my 2 just share that. morning and evening

An 1/8 of a cup is just the recommended amount of pellets to feed any guinea pig over 6 months old, but all guinea pigs should have unlimited grass hay(timothy, meadow, orchard grass) and about a cup of veggies each per day.

Okay thank you! I actually just found out my guinea pug is under 6 months, he is 3. Would it still be 1 cup of veggies?

Thank you! Is it still 1 cup of veggies if he is younger than 6 months?

I would probably start at a less amount and work up to the full cup by the time he turns 6 months as I was giving the full amount to my 6 month olds, once I had gotten them used to a variety, but introduce any new veggies slowly to avoid an upset tummy. Most of my pigs were already around 6 months when they were rescued, so I don't have a lot of experienced with younger babies.

Is he on alfalfa or timothy based pellets? if he is on alfalfa based, he should be switched to timothy based at 6 months, if he is on timothy based, he can have some alfalfa hay as he is still growing and needs the extra calcium alfalfa hay has.

I hope this helps :)

Thank you very much! He is on timothy hay right now but there may be alfalfa in his food. He enjoys yellow bell peppers and carrots the most. I gave him 2 carrots today and a pepper slice.

Peppers are awesome for Vit. C, it would be great to start introducing lettuces(romaine, leaf, boston, etc, just not iceberg) as leafy greens are one of the best types of veggies.
