Hello. I'm brand new here so I'm sorry if I post this in the wrong place or you've heard it all before. I did do a forum search but please direct me if there is an existing thread.

My piggies will be in my lounge. Not much storage space in here but I do have room in the kitchen or conservatory but would like to avoid trawling things too far in as I'm very clumsy and bound to leave trails of hay etc how do you store stuff. Do you decant food and hay into smaller things?

Thanks x

Hello, welcome to the forum! Piggie do seem to have lots of stuff :)) we keep our bags of hay upstairs and bring a bag down that we use along with dry food decanted into a upper ware and we keep it in a big plastic storage box by the cage. Will take a photo for you in the morning. You can decant hay into bags if it comes in too bigger bag. It is finding out things that work for you and your space

All my pig suplies are in the pig room, high out of piggy reach , apparet from the water, l take the bottles out to fill them .

I keep the food in food containers, hay stays in the cupboard, and i use ikea kallax units for everything, well that is the plan, I am currently just using plastic draw units for all pet items

Piggies are in the conservatory here. I keep a bag of food beside the cage, fleeces and towels on my sewing desk shelves and hay in a small flip lidded bin that I found in Ikea (they have lots of sizes of the bin but this one fits the standard hay bag that I buy). Between the piggy girls and my dog there is a lot of "stuff" so my windowsill beside the cage has bits on it.
Will take a pic in a bit.

:wel: to the forum.

You are wise to do your research in advance . And .... - I agree - hay can get everywhere ! It can take a while to find the storage systems that work right for you so, please don't spend loads of money at the outset.

Any plastic storage box suitable for human food is great for storing their pellets in - or you could keep them in the bag they came in - with a bag clip .

I like to keep my hay in breathable containers -cardboard boxes are fine for this . Some members use laundry baskets . I use petware wash bags ...

@PiggyOwner my hay comes in 500g plastic bags. I just leave it there until I use it. Do you think I should remove it from the bag? I live in a warm climate and it doesn't seem to be affected by being in the bag.

If you are happy your hay is dry - it should be OK in the plastic bag.

I buy my hay from an online supplier and I can only assume it is stored in bales at this supplier . It is delivered in a plastic bag. The hay is lovely - but I have noticed moisture vapour on the inside of the bag. I decant this hay into a breathable bag straight away.

Good stuff thank you! We have a huge lounge with laminate floor and people say aren't I lucky it's easy to keep clean but the con is you can see every little speck even when you've just hoovered! I'm not massively house proud luckily but do remember the hay from last time. Watching TV and a big ball drifts past like a wild west film!

I actually hate laminate flooring. We had house buns in our last house, with laminate everywhere except the stairs (I would have had carpets if I could have afforded to replace the laminate). You could sweep, then hoover and then mop and there'd still be furballs and hayballs drift past like the tumble weed in a wild west film. :hb: :hb:

I use a plastic cereal storage container for their food.

Mine are outside so hay I store in a dustbin (obviously its a clean one - its never been used for anything other than animal food storage). But I think any plastic box/tub/bin that you could store would do (so long as hay is dry enough).

My hay comes in 4k bags and it is wraped in plastic , l keep it sealed in my pig room untill needed
Then l open a bag and and use as required , they have unlimertid hay so it do,snt stand around long :tu:

Meant to add pic of my hay storage. This ikea bin is great. The hay is nice and dry and the dust settles at the bottom. Flip too lid makes it easy for the kids to top up the hay. Comes in lots of sizes I just chose this one that fits the bags I get.
