A quick question for those slaves whose piggies suffer from bloat. Paprika had her first attack of this over the weekend and fingers crossed she is making a good recovery. I need to re-think their diet as regards to vegetables and fruit. I know cabbage and broccoli are a no-no but any other information would be much appreciated.

Hi there. Sorry your piggy is suffering its this. It's not nice. My boy first had this in April I think it was and his tummy has been very sensitive ever since. He just has a tiny piece of cucumber every now and then as too much and anything else sets of bloat again. He now lives on his nuggets, Timothy hay, dried dandelion mix and the small pieces of cucumber every so often. I was advised by a very knowledgeable member on here that I could try reintroducing veg like c&c and parsley very slowly and see how he went once he'd started improving, but it didnt go well. You've named two obvious gassy vegetables, also sprouts. Can't think what else top of my head. Just go carefully as once they've had bloat they can have further problems. Good luck x

Beans are a no too...

Treacle can only eat parsley, cucumber, celery, peppers, celery leaves, lettuce and carrot now.

The key is to introduce slowly. Our vet keeps us supplied with metachlopromide which we give for 2 weeks after a mini bloat period.

Thanks for that, at the moment she is having very small portions of carrot, cucumber, pepper and romain/little gem. I gave her 3 stalks of coriander and a baby corn tonight. Seems to have gone down well. The vet did say give her small portions of fruit to encourage eating. I must say though frightening as it was to have this condition within the gang its made me re-evaluate their diet. I think the girls will come to appreciate it - eventually.
