Being a major novice, in caring for GP's recently. I seem to find conflicting information on what food to give GP's, some people say to give them cabbage, some say do not, is all lettuce bad for them?, also can I not give them bannana's, and also later this week, I am going to attempt to tidy my garden , and we have some nettles, can they eat them?. I am sure loads of other people have asked these questions before, I am just fairly new and finding my feet with these wonderful creature

You will find that diet is a major subject amongst guinea pig owners and it is very frustrating when there is conflicting advice. The key is variety as too much of any veg is not good for guinea pigs.

Anything that is in the cabbage family ( cabbage, broccoli, kale ) should be fed in moderation as it can cause bloat.

This is the best thread to read

This is a good thread too

I'm not sure about fresh nettles - any one know? (I know some forum members give their guinea pigs dried nettles - as a forage).

Still learning loads, Can they eat blackberries is another one, or wild fruits?, I try to give them a variety of foods, have tried blueberries, and bean sprouts recently. Someone said they all have there personal preferences like us, My guinea pigs do not seem that fond of courgettes, and turned their noses up at pears.

Yes I think they have food preferences just like people. When I first got my Hazelnut I tried all the fruits and veg mentioned in the threads posted by @PiggieOwner He wouldn't eat anything except cos lettuce, redoak lettuce, carrots, parsley, grass and dandelion leaves. When I got Peanut Butter he would try anything but as soon as he saw Hazelnut turning up his nose at a food PB would stop eating it. So for almost 4 years now both boys have been on Hazelnut's diet. As parsley is not good to feed in quantity I save it for lap time treats and Hazelnut;s nail cutting sessions (PB gets his done by the vet as he has to have monthly dentals).

... I've given up with courgette - neither the guinea pigs nor the hoomans in our household like it.

Mine half heatedly nibble courgette but leave most of it and turned their noses up at broccoli last night! They ate the broccoli stalks last week but the flowery bits are not good apparently. They haven't turned their noses up at anything else so far!
