Hello,

I have read all the threads on what to feed a piggie but this being my first and only guinea pig I have no idea how much!
He is still very timid so have put down some wagg food, 1-3 carrot, 1/5 pepper, apple core with no seads, slice of cucumber and a strawberry.

How much and when shoule they be eaten?

Claire

very slowly introuce the vege's like literally start with a little cube of it otherwise you will get runny poo xxxxx
By the way do you only have 1 piggy?
If so its best to get it a friend usually of the same sex unless the male is neutered, they are usually withdrawn and scared without a mate x

Thank you.
I do only have the one as I got it from the RSPCA and they only had 1. He has always been on his own so I thought he would be ok.
His poo seems fine. Have just given him more carrot, as he seems to love this, pepper, cucumer and strawberry.
We have a veg patch in our garden so hoping he will like what we are growing!

Welcome to the forum. A cup full of veg per piggy per day is a rough guideline... an inch or two of carrot, 1 leaf of Spring Green, small slice of apple, etc. and introduce each new food gradually i.e one at a time (one a day!) if you don't know what he was eating before.

Dry food - a handful per pig twice a day - ish! You'll soon get to know what they eat and how much,

Hay -unlimited -as much as he'll eat!

Piggies should have company of their own kind, unless there's a very good reason not to, as no matter how much time you spend with him it's not the same as another piggy. How old is he? An adult boar can usually be succesfully bonded with a youngster

THank you Sophie,

He is a boar of 6 months old. Our aim was to rehome 2 piggies but our local rescue centre only had Smoothie and I couldn't resist him!
Will keep en eye on the new animals coming in as not sure where else locally to get one from.
