Hi, a couple of older piggies (not belonging to me, other family piggies) are not holding as much weight as I'd like going into colder weather. I feed mine limited alfalfa cubes (a treat from PaH) all winter, in addition to ad lib hay, Burgess nuggets, hay cookies, and veggies. However, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything more suitable for holding weight especially during colder months? There are no problems with appetite or ability to eat, they have pellets and hay which is always gobbled. Wondered if anyone adds cod liver oil to pellets and is it effective? Thank you!

Guinea pigs must not eat any animal products so I would not feed cod liver oil.

i wouldn't change things too much incase it upsets their tummies. but maybe some of their pellets made into a warm mash might be appreciated? :)

I tend to use critical care to help weight gain, they are happy to eat it out of a bowl, though there tends to be a massive fight over it as they all love it.

thank you for the info, is that the powder? and then do you mix as instructed but just put in a bowl for them to eat themselves?

thanks, i never thought to do that, i have a packet of unused critical care, bought for use in an emergency!

Hopefully they will like it. Just check it is still in date.
